Compiz on Mint 19 Cinnamon

Post by henrym » Mon Dec 24, 2018 5:14 pm

How can I make the Compiz cube work on Mint 19 Cinnamon? No online solution that I have found has worked.

As for using compiz directly with Cinnamon, one of the developer group members is saying this: viewtopic.php?p=975083#p975083

Yes Compiz works on mate. It is already installed, you just have to enable it. from Desktop settings > Windows > window manager.

In fact compiz on mint 19 has more effects than has had in a long time. The «burn» effect I like, was missing for a long time, increase timing to about 250, and color to go with your theme.

So it is included in MATE? Does that mean I can remove the extra compiz packages that I installed after MATE?

Yes «included»
What «extra packages»? no need to install anything extra, using Mate. but if you already did, I expect no need to remove them either.

Still there in my 19.1 MATE. In fact, nothing about compiz has been changed in 19.1, none of the packages have been upgraded since 19.0 release.

I certainly could be mistaken. wouldn’t be the first time. I didn’t see it on my 19.1 stick, just take a minute to boot it again on another computer. please wait.

You are of course right, I think I forgot to check the box animations add-on.

I guess I should edit that previous statement. done.

Desktop Cube

Does not work with Linux Mint 21.1 Cinnamon. Not actively dangerous, desktop remains working, but CTRL-ALT-LEFT and CTRL-ALT-RIGHT do nothing. You have to disable the extension to return to normal workspace switching. cinnamon is allergic to compiz. there is only wobbly windows but the rest is not received. I team mint doesn’t know that many users have switched to linux also thanks to compiz in that way you could see the absolute superiority and lightness of windows.
