Linux mint dvd rom

В Linux Mint¶

_images/mintstick.png

Download Etcher, install it and run it.

_images/etcher.png

В Linux¶

Установите и используйте xfburn .

В Windows¶

В Mac OS¶

How to mount cdrom or dvd?

Post by Leloup » Mon Jan 06, 2020 5:14 pm

I should like mounting cdrom. The distribution is Linux Mint Xfce. I failed.

/dev$ cat /etc/fstab
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# Use ‘blkid’ to print the universally unique identifier for a
# device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name devices
# that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).
#
#
/dev/mapper/mint—vg-root / ext4 errors=remount-ro 0 1
/dev/mapper/mint—vg-swap_1 none swap sw 0 0
#/dev/cdrom /mnt/Point iso9660 user ro noauto noexec 0 0 I added these three lines
#/dev/cdrom /mnt/Point iso9660 user,ro,noauto,noexec 0 0
/dev/cdrom /mnt/Point iso9660 user,ro,auto,exec 0 0

/dev$ sudo mount -r -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/Point
mount: /mnt/Point : wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sr0, missing codepage or helper program, or other error.

drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 4096 janv. 6 20:43 .

/dev$ ls -altr | grep -i cdrom
crw-rw—-+ 1 root cdrom 21, 1 janv. 6 20:30 sg1
crw-rw—-+ 1 root cdrom 21, 0 janv. 6 20:30 sg0
brw-rw—-+ 1 root cdrom 11, 1 janv. 6 20:30 sr1
brw-rw—-+ 1 root cdrom 11, 0 janv. 6 20:30 sr0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 janv. 6 20:30 cdrom -> sr0

Something is wrong but what?
Do you have a little bit idea?

I’m not sure I understand.
Typically a cd or dvd will just mount. It does so under /dev/sr0

It’s certainly not normal to add it to fstab

What do you want to do with the CD once it’s mounted?
Are you trying to install Mint-xfce?
If so, that’s not the way to do it; you need to insert the CD into the drive then reboot the computer and if needed, choose to boot to to the CD drive by pressing a key, often F2 or F8 to enter the BIOS/UEFI settings and change the boot device.

Tell us more as what you have said makes no sense.

Bonjour and thank you for your messages.

Cdrom and dvd players are not accessible. I don’t know why.
You’re asking me why. I just want to listen to music CD using one of these players.
Moreover, since I modified fstab, I think it’s because of that, Linux doesn’t boot anymore. I’m going to need one of the two drives to reboot and at some point I’m going to have to mount sda1 to modify fstab. It’s not a sure thing.

Support for CD and DVD drives is mostly flawless in my experience.
Having said that I use them less and less. Actually can’t recall when I last did, so it’s most likely years ago.
You can repair fstab from a live session FYI

But can we ask, how did you install Mint? Via a USB stick or DVD?

Bot to a live Mint DVD or USB and once in that OS mount the root partition of your installed Mint install (I will leave you to find that from the file manager left hand pane) and run commands

sudo parted -l sudo blkid cat /media/installed-mint-partition/etc/fstab

You will need to change the wording of that command where I have shown /installed-mint-partition to whatever you find the mountpoint to be as shown in the file manager.

Tell us the output and we may be able to tell you how to edit the fstab file and get back to your installed version again.

Greetings the Wolf.
On a PC you probably have to put the DVD in the first place in the BIOS Start-Up-Settings, with the arrow keys and not with the mouse. Should you be traveling on a Mac just press stubborn key C.

If audio-CD does not mount, find the CDROM and add it to the /etc/fstab file and reboot computer.

Command dmesg | grep sr tells CDROM´s device name.

The line to add if CDROM is /dev/sr0

/dev/sr0 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0

Thank you all for your help messages.
Once is not customary. In addition to comic books, I borrowed music records from my town’s media library. I agree, today there are many other ways to listen to music. But when I put the disc in the player, I was surprised not to see it in the explorer.
I did some things. I summarize.
First, Linux didn’t boot anymore. However, I get the following message on the black screen:
You are in emergency mode. After logging in, type «journalctl —xb» to view
system logs, «systemctl reboot» to reboot, «systemctl default» or «exit»
to boot into default mode.

After the password was entered, the last lines of the /etc/fstab file that were supposed to cause the problem were deleted. As a result, Linux Mint 19.2 XFCE booted correctly. Whew!
Second, in the software manager, I found Gnome-disk-utility to manage and configure disk drives and media.
It activates the drive so that the disc appears in the file explorer. I take it the disc is mounted. I can open and play a piece of music.
Also in the software manager, it is possible to change the mounting options.
Either these are the default settings for the user session or not. Changing the proposed settings generates an additional line in /etc/fstab .
Changing /etc/fstab is the same as changing the mount point options.

It’s better, I can listen to music from the disc in the DVD player.
But something’s not right. I don’t know what.
