[Solved] Pairing an apple magic mouse.

Post by SDatl404 » Sun Jan 29, 2012 4:45 pm

I got a magic mouse the other day and lm12 finds the mouse and installs it but can’t pair with it. What would cause this?

Normally, the steps would be to go to System Settings > Bluetooth, make sure it is enabled and set to visible, then switch on the Magic Mouse, then start the wizard to add a new device. You should find the Magic Mouse and be asked for a pin to pair the mouse. The factory setting is 0000. If you have changed the pin previously, you have to use the other setting.

I got it working, by installing the other bluetooth manager from the software manager. Then I paired the device through that program. After the device was paired, I right clicked the device and selected input service. After this the mouse connected and worked as it should.

Apple magic mouse on linux setup and how to guide

Using an apple magic mouse with linux is very easy: this post will show you how to setup an apple magic mouse on linux ubuntu, fedora, mint, etc. The apple mouse uses bluetooth to connect, so you need a bluetooth device (it may be built-in if you have a laptop). The bluetooth device needs to be switched on.

  • make sure bluetooth is enabled.
  • turn on your magic mouse
  • move the mouse.
  • you will see a ‘pair’ request
  • enter 0000 as the pair code.
  • you can now use your apple magic mouse on linux.

Troubleshooting your apple magic mouse on linux

If you dont get the pair request, click on the bluetooth icon and then click on the ‘+’ icon
Wait for the system to identify your magic mouse
Click the text thats displayed (it will say ‘apple magic mouse’)
You will now get a pair request and should be able to use your magic mouse

It keeps saying “searching for devices” – it’s been like this for over an hour and the mouse does not appear on the device list. What do i do?

Turninng the mouse off and on again to make sure it was in “discovery” mode helped me in your situation.

Apple Magic Mouse and Keyboard (Solved)

Post by hgabor84 » Sun Dec 18, 2022 3:41 pm

Can you use your Apple Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard for your Linux Mint via Bluetooth? I’ve enabled bluetooth for always visible in the system but after scanning for devices it can’t find anything. Also restarted both of devices (mouse and keyboard).

It has been started working now but needed to retry so many times. The Mouse started to work easier but for the keyboard it needed to use the «bluetoothctl» utility for pairing.

Sorry for reviving «old» thread, but I was knocking my head on the wall after very frustrated attempts to connect my Apple Magic Mouse I.

Turns out I had to go to the console and type

or else, the blueman-manager on Mint 21.1 would never show it.

I feel the need to report this bug, as a new user will feel incredibly frustrated if he’s not able to use his trusted old device.

[SOLVED] Mint on iMAC 2008 : how to pair Apple Magic Mouse

Post by gt4w4al » Wed Nov 23, 2022 7:09 pm

I have a good surprise in how simple it was to install Mint on this old iMac I saved from the bin. I had an issue with the wifi driver, but once all the updates were made with an ethernet cable, it works fine out of the box.

Last item, I don’t manage to use the Apple Magic Mouse model A1657. I found some thread about Magic Mouse 2, but it’s not working there. It seems the mouse is seen by the bluetooth manager very briefly and then disappear. I finaly manage to catch it in the manager window, pair it, trust it but when I click on the mouse to wake it up, I have 2 notices by Mint : Mouse connected, and immediately Mouse disconnected.
I can ask the manager to connect it, but I have the 2 messages connected/disconnected and an error message at the bottom of the manager :
Connexion failed : br-connection-create-socket

I understood from other thread this is possible to have all functions of this mouse in Linux. At least, I’d like to just get the pointer !
Argh, if somebody can help me.

Well, I run regular LinuxMint (LM 18 Cinnamon 64 bit, specifically) and everything works perfectly, there.

Of course, just like any other mouse, you can’t get natural scrolling to work, and of course the tracking for this mouse (as it has always been in any GNU+Linux distro I’ve tried) is all kinds of jacked up, even after you finally get it to a tolerable level. But, technically speaking, it all works.

It worked with no intervention. I turned it on, it went into pairing mode. I then went to my Bluetooth panel applet, it brought up the Bluetooth control, it scanned and found the mouse, I told it to pair, and it did so.

I haven’t had that mouse paired to my laptop under this instance of LM being installed before. In fact, I haven’t used the mouse in several months, and the last thing it *was* paired to was my Nexus 4, which I haven’t used since I got my Nexus 6.
