[SOLVED] «Monitor: Unknown», Resolution-unchangeable
Post by 1niko1 » Thu May 05, 2016 12:37 pm
PROBLEM:
Today it logged me in with resolution of 1152×854(Wikipedia say it is XGA+) and 76Hz, instead of usual 1280×720 60Hz.
I immediately opened ‘Monitor Preferences’ and saw «Monitor: Unknown», while ‘Detect monitors’ option doesn’t do anything.
No other resolutions or refresh rates are available
My experience: beginner (first Linux instal.)
What are my options.

try first updating the kernel to the latest linux 3.19.0-XX version, restart pc. if it did nothing go and try the latest 4.2.0-XX. restart again and finally try the last option which is 4.4.0-XX and restart.
go to update manager—>menu bar—>view—>linux kernels—>SELECT KERNEL AND INSTALL (reboot to take affect.)

I tried all three kernels, same thing, no change.
But, there was a lot of errors, during installation, under details.
. I forgot to save other two, here is the last:

Monitor Unknown and impossible to change resolution
Post by raphabenoi » Mon Jan 04, 2021 7:02 am
I’m both new to Linux Mint and this forum.
Just got into the office and want to connect my external monitor. It works but I’m stuck with a 1024 x 768 resolution and the monitor is marked as «Unknown DP-1» in the display settings.
The monitor is a Dell U2518D and I have Intel HD 620 graphics.
I’m on Linux Mint 20 Ulyana with a Cinnamon desktop
Here’s the output to inxi -Fxxxrz :
