[SOLVED] Driver Manager not working 18.3 Mate

Post by JoHubb » Sun Mar 04, 2018 1:22 pm

Nothing happens when I try to open Driver Manager.

Software Manager, Software Sources, Synaptic Package Manager all working.

I’d be grateful for advice. Thanks.

. can you try the following in a terminal?
/usr/lib/linuxmint/mintdrivers/mintdrivers.py
Does a pop-up box get displayed asking for password?

A re-installation could also be of help:
sudo apt-get install —reinstall mintdrivers

If still nada, check here.
It might be needed that aptdaemon also needs to be (re-)installed:
sudo apt-get install aptdaemon

Sadly, none of these worked. I re-booted each time.

When each command was entered, there was a password popup, and each time, this was accepted and the command was executed.

With /usr/lib/linuxmint/mintdrivers/mintdrivers.py there was a download. The popup window at the end had a title: Driver Manager (as superuser).
I did not know I was a superuser, and I do not want to be one! Just an ordinary Joe will be fine till I get the hang of this.

This is the sudo output for the apt-get install:

howard@howard-System-Product-Name ~ $ sudo apt-get install aptdaemon [sudo] password for howard: Reading package lists. Done Building dependency tree Reading state information. Done aptdaemon is already the newest version (1.1.1+bzr982-0ubuntu14). 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

Driver Manager Missing!

Post by boris12345678 » Tue Aug 04, 2020 12:04 pm

Hi, I’ve just installed Linux Mint LMDE 4 on my laptop but was having issues with connecting to wifi. After searching the forum I realised I can’t even check which drivers are installed because my driver manager is missing! I made a new flash drive and booted from that with the same result. no driver manager. Any help greatly appreciated!

The driver manager isn’t in LMDE 4 Debbie, as it is Ubuntu tech.
You may need to provide further info on your machine by posting the output of ‘inxi -Fxz’ in order to help with that problem.
Most probably you’re missiing the necessary firmware for you wifi chip.

The Driver Manager isn’t available on Linux Mint Debian Edition. It is only on the Ubuntu based versions. As the person above me has stated, run that command in the terminal and post the output on this forum. It should be a relatively easy fix, requiring the installation of a dkms module.

They were wrong. LMDE is only for advanced users. Totally unfit for Linux beginners.

Do a fresh clean installation of the normal Linux Mint instead: much easier and considerably more user-friendly.

Thanks for your comment but I don’t want a windows clone or an easy ride so I’m going to persevere with this.

I need some help acquiring the correct broadcom driver please. If I have wifi I’l be able to work everything else out via youtube or this friendly forum!

If it is not in your menu you must have removed it. To get it back, right click on Menu (left side of the panel), select «Configure», click on «Open the menu editor», click on «Administration» (left part of screen), locate «Driver Manager» (right part of screen) and tick the box next to that entry.
If you have deleted it from there, you may be able to restore it with a click on «Restore System Configuration».

You can find the driver Manager also under the settings menu/configuration menu.
The main menu contains a lot of entries under preferences and administration which are part of the configuration/settings menu.

You mentioned «Driver Manager» as well as «Download Manager». Are they both missing?

You can access the Driver Manager from System Settings (in the Main Menu). It is in the Administration section and is called «Device Drivers».

If it is missing from your main menu, you can add an entry for it:
right click on «Menu», select «configure», click on «Open the menu editor». When the Main Menu screen appears, click on «Administration» in the left column and check if «Driver Manager» is listed and ticked. If it is not listed, click on «New Item» and type next to Name: Driver Manager. Type next to Command: driver-manager. Type next to Comment: Driver Manager. Close the screen. Driver Manager will now appear in your main menu.

I try with create new item ,but nothing different, driver manager is missing again. In administration section are :login screen, software sources, user and groups.
Download manager is missing too.I thing that the problem is with my distro.
Now I install download manager from software manager and type driver manger but there are: «iodbc» , «libiodbc2» «libiodbc2-dev» are one of them driver manager?
