How do I install a USB Wifi adapter? [SOLVED>
Post by Zipjim89 » Sun Feb 19, 2017 4:23 am
I got a US Wifi adapter, but when it shipped, there was no documentation on it, and when I tried to use it the driver manager in 18 had nothing. Thinking I needed a driver for it, I got someone in China to send me a big .rar file with All kinds of stuff on it. What do do with it? Driver manager still doesn’t see the USB adapter. Is there some way to use the Linux drivers my Chinese friend sent me? Is there a process to have driver manager install the adapter it doesn’t appear to see? How can I do this without messing everything up?

a. Please generate an overview of your system like this (obviously with the adapter plugged in):
— Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window);
— make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
— copy/paste this command into the terminal:
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)
Copy/paste the output in your next message.
b. Do the same with the following three commands:

Which is which? Because you seem to have executed those commands, at least part of them, with two wifi dongles inserted. That confuses the issue big time.
Please repeat those commands with only the wifi dongle inserted that gives the problem. Afterwards you can make internet connection with the other wifi dongle, in order to post your reply.
