Linux не работает telnet

Telnet is not working in ubuntu 14.04

Do you have any idea? On another machine I installed the same way and it worked there, but now on my machine it is not working. Please help me to solve this problem. I also tried to restart Xinetd but it was not helpful.

I think you need to reboot for the firewall changes to take effect. You at least have to restart the ufw service. Try sudo ufw 23 to just allow it and then sudo service ufw restart to restart the firewall.

Configure the /etc/inetd.conf file manually by adding the line «telnet stream tcp nowait telnetd /usr/sbin/tcpd /usr/sbin/in.telnetd» to it with elevated permissions.

Then, configure the /etc/xinetd.conf file manually by adding

log_type = SYSLOG authpriv

to the default settings section (with elevated permissions).

Restart the telnet server by running the commnd «sudo /etc/init.d/xinetd restart».

When you finish, use the command «telnet -tln» to check to see if the telnet server successfully opened a socket for you on Port 23

If so, you should see a line in the output that looks like the following:

TCP 0 0 (your local address):23 0.0.0.0:* LISTENING

If so, run ifconfig to grab the IPv4 and take that over to your other machine (running the telnet client). In that terminal run «telnet (the IPv4 you wrote down)». If everything’s configured correctly (it may take a few seconds depending on your connection speed) it should connect and prompt you for a username/password. Enter them and you’re in.

telnet 192.168.0.3 Trying 192.168.0.3. telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection refused

hostA# apt-get install openssh-server

Нет, вру. Уже нашел, но все инструкции старые и файлы о которых там говориться (например /etc/inetd.conf или /etc/init.d/inetd) на моей системе просто отсутствуют

How to get telnet working on CentOS/RHEL and MacOS?

telnet is not available by default on a higher version of CentOS/RHEL and MacOS. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get it installed.

When you run telnet, you will notice the following error.

[root@instance-1 ~]# telnet -bash: telnet: command not found [root@instance-1 ~]#

To fix this, you need to install telnet and it’s easy.

Installing telnet on CentOS/RHEL

You can also use DNF if using CentOS 8.

It’ll download the package and install and show you the complete confirmation below.

Telnet Server not starting

I am installing Ubuntu Server 13.10 and cant get telnet working on the server. I have installed both xinet.d & telnetd thru apt-get and restarted xinetd but nothing is started when I do a netstat -l . In googling, the trouble I see mention of adding telnet stream tcp wait telnetd /usr/sbin/tcpd /usr/sbin/in.telnetd line to /etc/inetd.conf . I have no inetd.conf . I see that inetd has been depracated and I put the line in xinetd.conf and restarted xinetd service but still no telnet listening. Can someone advise me on what the proper settings for the telnet server and what files they should be in. Here is the content of my xinetd.conf file:

# Simple configuration file for xinetd # # Some defaults, and include /etc/xinetd.d/ defaults < # Please note that you need a log_type line to be able to use log_on_success # and log_on_failure. The default is the following : # log_type = SYSLOG daemon info >includedir /etc/xinetd.d #:STANDARD: These are standard services. telnet stream tcp nowait telnetd /usr/sbin/tcpd /usr/sbin/in.telnetd

Why are you using telnet? It is an obsolete and insecure protocol. Use ssh instead: it’s secure, faster ( uses compression ) and has other nifty features, like the ability to forward ports.

You seem to think that /etc/inetd.conf and xinetd.conf use the same format. Have you read man xinetd , man -k xinetd , man inetd , man -k inetd , man telnetd ? Does /etc/default/telnetd exist? Have you done grep telnet /var/log/* ?
