5. Миф о дружелюбности к пользователю

О, это раздутый миф. «Дружелюбный к пользователю» (англ. user-friendly) — это широко применяющийся в мире компьютеров термин. Так даже назван один очень хороший веб-комикс. Но этот термин плох.
Основная идея хороша: софт должен быть разработан в расчёте на потребностей пользователя. Но на эту идею часто ссылаются как на единственную идею, а такой подход неверный.

Если ты проводишь всю свою жизнь, обрабатывая текстовые файлы, идеальная для тебя программа — быстрая и мощная, позволяющая тебе выполнить максимум работы, при этом затрачивая минимальные усилия. Простые клавиатурные комбинации и возможность выполнения операций без мышки становятся жизненно необходимыми.

Однако, если ты очень редко правишь текстовые файлы и просто время от времени хочешь написать письмо, в последнюю очередь тебе захочется бороться с изучением клавиатурных сокращений. Хорошо организованные меню и понятные иконки на панелях будут для тебя идеальны.

Ясное дело, ПО, выстроенное вокруг потребностей первого пользователя, будет абсолютно непригодным для второго и наоборот. Каким же тогда образом софт может называться «дружелюбным к пользователю», если мы все имеем различающиеся потребности?

Простой ответ таков: «дружелюбный к пользователю» — некорректный термин, такой термин, который заставляет сложную ситуацию выглядеть простой.

Что же может означать термин «дружелюбность к пользователю»? В контексте, в котором он обычно употребляется, «дружелюбное к пользователю» ПО означает «программное обеспечение, которое пользователь с приемлемым уровнем компетенции может использовать без предварительного изучения этого ПО». К сожалению, благодаря этому паршивые-но-знакомые интерфейсы подпадают под категорию «дружелюбных к пользователю».

Кто говорит что Linux не User friendly? вы ios видели?

в Linux я с 98-го года. ну и как-то привык к этой парадигме «Linux не user friendly» и особо народ не агитирую. За другими системами наблюдаю слабо. в Windows мире не происходит НИКАКИХ изменений последние лет 15. ну а в макось заглядывал пару раз тоже как-то не вштырило,

ну а тут подарили мне IPhone, ну и вроде красивая железячка.

запустил, вставил симку, звонит вроде. все ок.

походил пару дней. но понял что надо таки собраться и залить на него мелодий на звонки. почитал по форумам: линукс вроде не очень дружит с айфонами. ну да ладно.

первое что пришло в голову — выложить mp3’шку на свой сервак и скачать ее айфонным браузером. ну тут сразу же облом — скачивать нельзя, только слушать.

ок, думаю, полез в эплстор, поставил пару программ с названием «downloader*». скачал mp3. проигрывать можно — поставить на звонок нельзя.

короче, ребята, установка и настройка прозрачного проксирования на SQUID с прозрачным перехватом HTTPS и подменой сертификаторв — это детский сад по сравнению с задачкой «установить на айфон свою мелодию на звонок»

короче алгоритм там примерно такой (для этого была поставлена винда, но пока к успеху я не пришел):

• устанавливаешь itunes
• добавляешь свою мелодию в список
• идешь в глубину каких-то диалогов, ставишь какие-то галочки и длину 38 (sic!) секунд
• выходишь обратно выбираешь в пункте меню «конвертировать в AAC» (в моем айтюнс такого пункта не оказалось и я на этом остановился)
• потом идешь в файловую систему, находишь этот AAC, переименовываешь файлик в специальное имя
• потом появляется звук в айфоне

это ребята, не user friendly, это ППЦ какой-то!

PS: попробовал через drop-box со старого телефона перекинуть фотку своего ребенка на обои поставить в новом: та же хрень: посмотреть фотку в дропбоксе можно, поставить на обои нельзя. в итоге просто фоткнул ребенка еще раз.

Люди, вот объясните мне, почему с этих маков/айфонов народ так тащится?

‘Linux is Not User Friendly’ — No Way!

In our previous post, we discussed how mainstream media is adopting linux(‘Stop using Windows, Use Ubuntu instead’). And a lot of people started complaining how not-user-friendly Linux really is. Before saying such far fetched statements, one thing they all need to consider is this, Linux!=Windows!

• It is not the friendliness factor, it is the user familiarity factor that is giving a lot of bad name for Linux. Most of the Linux users are those migrating from Microsoft Windows and it requires a certain amount of time to get familiar with the new OS.

• I have my own experience to substantiate this statement. I was not much of a computer user at all till I bought my laptop 4 years ago. I installed Ubuntu as dual boot with Windows XP. I instantly started liking Ubuntu, it was fun to use and all the compiz eyecandy was just overwhelming. To that day, I considered linux as an outcast or never really though about it at all.

• But even a guy like me with minimal Windows experience took 2-3 months to get fully familiar with Ubuntu. But once I got familiar, their was no looking back. To this day, there was not even a single instance where I had to go back to the Windows era.

• That is probably the issue. Most of them are so too familiar with Windows and so are they, in a way, expecting everything in Linux to be just as like in Windows. That has to change.

• Another good example of this ‘familiarity factor’ is the IT@School project introduced in Kerala, India in 2002. Kerala government completely shut down windows, and made schools to use only Linux. Students or parents didn’t protest, they just went on with it. And now Kerala is among the states having the highest e-literacy rate.

• Here is another guy proudly proclaiming Ubuntu is NOT user friendly and that he is going ‘back’ to Windows. He never ‘came’ to Ubuntu to go ‘back’ to Windows.

• All I have to say to those who say Ubuntu is tough to use is, spend some more time on it before quitting. It is worth it. I can’t even think about using Windows now, partially because I am all too familiar with Ubuntu and Linux. So please do bear that in mind always.

Linux distros not user friendly enough?

i recently started using Linux after many years of using windows. love the fact its more secure and Lubuntu works really fast on my system and that it has a world of apps written by people who care if it works or not tho i just wonder why its so very difficult to get anything done, its not entirely user friendly. are all distros the same in this respect? being a staunch iphone hater the fact Linux is open to change just about anything much like android is really a plus.

There’s a lot of variety in ease of use on the Linux desktop depending on your use case (what you’re trying to get done) and the software you choose to use. LXDE (the Lubuntu environment) is an uber-lightweight system, so it’s not going to be a pretty and easy to use as the default Unity desktop. I mean, Linux is just the kernel, and Android uses the Linux kernel, too; that’s how different two different Linux OSs can really be. If you’ve ever played with the Chromebook OS, that’s a Linux, too.

If Lubuntu isn’t doing what you need it to do, shop around. If you have trouble with a specific app, look for alternatives; if the LXDE desktop is more trouble than it’s worth, try a new desktop; if Linux in general just isn’t pushing your buttons, you can always try Windows again. But I’d say that in general, yes, the distros really can be very different animals, and although there are some similarities and some apps that you’ll see across Linux desktops and although some things really are just not as friendly as you might expect from Windows (though the reverse is true in many cases, too,) it’s worth exploring.
