Gnome: ввод символов по коду

Большинство опытных пользователей Windows знают про возможность ввода символа по его коду: Alt-[номер на дополнительной клавиатуре]. Самые опытные знают, что поведение различается у юникодных и неюникодных программ (юникодные хотят двухбайтный код, неюникодные — код в текущей кодировке). Особенно приятно пользоваться этим методом на ноутбуках, где дополнительная клавиатура либо отсутствует, либо доступна с использованием регистра Fn.

Большинство пользователей линукса знают о Compose key. И о том, что с её помощью можно вводить часто необходимые знаки, такие как кавычки-ёлочки (« == Compose < > ), тире (— = Compose —), символ параграфа (§ = Compose s o), всякие умляуты и диакриты (àãå, Compose `a, Compose ~ a, Compose o a), символ фунта (£ = Compose L -), неразрывный пробел (Сompose и два пробела) и т.д.

Но иногда хочется вводить странные символы (например, Ѧ или забавные значки из раздела «различные символы» таблицы юникода: ☭, или даже символы других языков: シツ, あ, красивые нестандартные скобки: 【такие】 или 〘「такие」, или даже 《такие 》。

Есть унылый вариант — ковыряться в таблице символов. Интересно первые два-три раза. Дальше их хочется вводить быстрее. И этот метод есть: Ctrl-Shift-U — после этого удерживая шифт нужно ввести нужный код в шестнадцатиричном виде (т.е. 1 — 4 символа).

Сами коды можно посмотреть в той же таблице символов. Однако, метод работает только в gnome-приложениях (например, в опере с момента ухода с Qt она работать перестала). А в Inkscape оно работает даже интереснее — там после нажатия Ctrl-Shift-U в подсказке появляется будущий символ, и можно поправить опечатку в вводе кода символа.

2. Просмотрите категории в нижней части диалогового окна или начните вводить описание в поле поиска.

Клавиша Compose

Клавиша Compose — это специальная клавиша, позволяющая вводить специальные символы с помощью определённых комбинаций клавиш. Например, чтобы ввести символ é , нужно нажать Compose , затем ‘ и e .

Клавиши Compose нет на клавиатуре, но можно назначить для выполнения её функций одну из имеющихся клавиш.

Назначение клавиши Compose

1. Откройте Обзор и начните вводить: Настройки .
2. Нажмите на Настройки .
3. Нажмите Клавиатура на боковой панели, чтобы открыть этот раздел настроек.
4. В разделе Ввод специальных символов нажмите Создать ключ .
5. Включите переключатель Кнопка Compose .
6. Установите флажок рядом с клавишей, которую вы хотите установить в качестве клавиши «Compose».
7. Закрыть диалог.

С помощью клавиши Compose можно вводить некоторые часто используемые символы, например:

Коды символов

Можно ввести любой символ Unicode, набрав на клавиатуре его четырёхзначный код. Чтобы узнать код символа, найдите этот символ в приложении Символы . Код символа — это четыре символа после U+ .

Чтобы ввести символ по его коду, нажмите Ctrl + Shift + U , затем введите четырехзначный код и нажмите Пробел или Enter . Если вы часто используете символы, которые сложно ввести другими методами, может быть полезно запомнить коды таких символов, чтобы быстро их вводить.

Раскладки клавиатуры

Можно сделать так, чтобы ваша клавиатура вела себя как клавиатура для другого языка, независимо от того, какие буквы изображены на клавишах. You can enter and view thousands of characters from most of the world’s writing systems, even those not found on your keyboard. This page lists some different ways you can enter special characters.

Methods to enter characters

Characters

The character map application allows you to find and insert unusual characters, including emoji, by browsing character categories or searching for keywords.

You can launch Characters from the Activities overview.

1. Press Ctrl + ; .
2. Browse the categories at the bottom of the dialog or start typing a description in the search field.
3. Select an emoji to insert.

Compose key

A compose key is a special key that allows you to press multiple keys in a row to get a special character. For example, to type the accented letter é , you can press compose then ‘ then e .

Keyboards don’t have specific compose keys. Instead, you can define one of the existing keys on your keyboard as a compose key.

Define a compose key

1. Open the Activities overview and start typing Settings .
2. Click on Settings .
3. Click Keyboard in the sidebar to open the panel.
4. In the Type Special Characters section, click Compose Key .
5. Turn the switch on for the Compose Key .
6. Tick the checkbox of the key that you want to set as the Compose key.
7. Close the dialog.

You can type many common characters using the compose key, for example:

• Press compose then ‘ then a letter to place an acute accent over that letter, such as é .
• Press compose then ` (back tick) then a letter to place a grave accent over that letter, such as è .
• Press compose then » then a letter to place an umlaut over that letter, such as ë .
• Press compose then — then a letter to place a macron over that letter, such as ē .

Code points

You can enter any Unicode character using only your keyboard with the numeric code point of the character. Every character is identified by a four-character code point. To find the code point for a character, look it up in the Characters application. The code point is the four characters after U+ .

To enter a character by its code point, press Ctrl + Shift + U , then type the four-character code and press Space or Enter . If you often use characters that you can’t easily access with other methods, you might find it useful to memorize the code point for those characters so you can enter them quickly.

Keyboard layouts

You can make your keyboard behave like the keyboard for another language, regardless of the letters printed on the keys. You can even easily switch between different keyboard layouts using an icon in the top bar. To learn how, see Use alternative keyboard layouts .

Input methods

An Input Method expands the previous methods by allowing to enter characters not only with keyboard but also any input devices. For instance you could enter characters with a mouse using a gesture method, or enter Japanese characters using a Latin keyboard.

To choose an input method, right-click over a text widget, and in the menu Input Method , choose an input method you want to use. There is no default input method provided, so refer to the input methods documentation to see how to use them.

Linux ввести unicode символ

You can use Unicode codes to enter any possible text symbols on Linux. Straight-forward from your keyboard. The only hard thing here is that you’ll have to remember some hex codes of these symbols. But you’ll read more on that below.

Steps

1. Hold down [Left Ctrl] + [Shift] + [U] keys (at the same time). Underlined u should appear.
2. Release the keys.
3. Enter Unicode symbol’s hex code. Enter hexadecimal (base 16 — 0123456789abcdef) code of symbol you want to type. For example try 266A to get ♪. Or 1F44F for 👏
4. Press [Space] key

For example try Unicode code 266A to get ♪ character, or 1F44F for 👏.

Unicode hex codes

View symbol codes in a character map. Get it in Linux Character maps as I’m sure you’ll like it. It is also a great alternative to Linux keyboard symbol codes themselves.

Also, you can use my Entity Tool — Escape special HTML & JavaScript character entities tool if you want to find out codes of some symbols you found somewhere. Just copy-paste the symbols into it and it will convert them into their HTML entity which is &#xCODE;.

You can always find all Unicode codes on the official site. The only problem is that sometimes it may be a bit hard to find there symbol you are looking for.

In addition to the table-driven sequences, we allow Unicode hex codes to be entered. The method chosen here is similar to the one recommended in ISO 14755, but not exactly the same, since we don’t want to steal 16 valuable key combinations.

A hex Unicode sequence must be started with Ctrl-Shift-U, followed by a sequence of hex digits entered with Ctrl-Shift still held. Releasing one of the modifiers or pressing space while the modifiers are still held commits the character. It is possible to erase digits using backspace.

As an extension to the above, we also allow to start the sequence with Ctrl-Shift-U, then release the modifiers before typing any digits, and enter the digits without modifiers.
