GUIDE — Enabling WiFi Support for Atheros Based WiFi Adapters
As of the first release of macOS Mojave, Apple has removed the support for Atheros based WiFi adapters by removing the AirPortAtheros40.kext file from the IO80211Family.kext/Contents/Plugins so if you have been using one of those cards you need to add the missing AirPortAtheros40.kext back to.

- Since release of macOS Sierra (10.12), Apple dropped support for old Broadcom BCM431x and BCM4321 cards respectively. There is no workaround, they must be replaced with a supported one.
- Since release of macOS Catalina (10.15), Apple dropped support for BCM4322 (14e4:432b). AirPortBrcm4331 plugin from IO80211Family kext was abandoned and no longer in use. This affects cards such as DW1510. A workaround is to simply install macOS Mojave’s IO80211Family kext.

Feel free to ask any question below.I will be happy to help!!
what external usb wifi adapters work with Monterey and newer?
I am interested in adding an external wifi adapter to a M1 or M2 laptop running Monterey OS 12.6 or newer. The adapter can be USB or SDXC.
Everywhere I look I’m being told they only support up to Catalina 10.15 OS. I am sure this is not correct, so I’d like to find out directly from Apple.

there is really good Wi-Fi built into the models you listed.
¿Why do you want a USB Wi-Fi adapter?

Where are you seeing this? Contact the Manufacturer, or look on the original packaging Apple is not the manufacturer of this device.
exactly, I’ve revived response from manufacturers, TP-Link, netgear, and a couple more telling me that their Mac OS compatible usb wifi adapters only work up to Catalina. No answers in why this is the case.
many help would be appreciated.

Catalina 64-Bit Restriction:
Those manufacturers’ device(s), probably all use 32-bit software. Apple dropped 32-bit app support in macOS Catalina. So, ether get 32-bit drivers from the manufacture, or upgrade you Mac to Catalina or after. IMPORTANT: Get the drivers from the manufacturer, and none other. Doing elsewise, you may end up with spyware or malware installed.
