Mayflash has released a few updates since I reviewed the product, here’s the important bits:

• Added Switch Pro mode (purple LED)
• Switch Pro mode supports controller vibration, DS4 motion controls
• DS4 touchpad is now bound to Switch capture button
• Supports more 3rd party Wii U Pro controllers- They tested Afterglow 085-018, HYPERKIN M07165-BK, NYKO 87161-P37, POWERA 1422653-01.

They also released a different version of the device, called the Mayflash Magic-S (it’s black). It looks to be a feature-stripped version, so I don’t think I’d recommend it. In addition, the Mayflash Magic-NS (grey) now has an updated sticker to reflect Switch Pro mode, and includes an OTG cable.

I ordered my Magic-NS from Totalconsole for $19.99 + $3 shipping. Processing time was 2 days, shipping time was 3 days. It is now Available on Amazon with Prime shipping for $19.99 (though as of writing it is back ordered).

Packaging and Build Quality:

Packaging is very simple, a small cardboard box consisting of only the unit in a plastic tray, and a small instruction leaflet (in Engrish). The build quality, however, leaves much to be desired. The plastic looks and feels very cheap, and the USB (male) is very loose, allowing you to push and bump it pretty dangerously far . The USB female, on the other hand, feels plenty solid. I was pretty disappointed by the build quality, due to how great other Mayflash USB adapters are. There is a small, small (seriously, it’s really small, both in size and height) button for Bluetooth sync on the side of the unit.

• Connect DS3, DS4, Switch Pro, Joy-con, Wii U Pro, X1 controllers wirelessly to Nintendo Switch, PS3, and PC.
• Connect DS3, DS4, Switch Pro, X1, X360, fight stick, standard PC USB controllers with USB to Nintendo Switch, PS3, and PC.
• Firmware updates through Mayflash

For Use with Switch:

The Magic-NS works with any USB port on the Switch, including the rear USB3.0 port, if you want to hide it (or don’t use an ethernet adapter). It should be noted this makes pressing the Sync button impossible. It supports analog inputs from joysticks for both of the controllers I tested (DS4 and Xbox One), both with Bluetooth (DS4) and USB (DS4 and X1). I noticed no input lag. All buttons are supported (and in Switch layout) on DS4, but the X1 controller does not have enough buttons to include screenshot function. Motion Control for DS4 controllers is not supported. I was unable to test other PC controllers, the Wii U Pro controller, DS3, fight sticks, or Xbox 360 controllers.

For use with PC:

The Magic-NS has the ability to act as a bluetooth receiver for controllers on PC, and supports both DirectInput and Xinput. As a result, you can connect Switch Joycons, DS4 and X1 controllers wirelessly to the PC. Syncing is easy, (switch to the input mode you want, press the button twice to sync). The Magic-NS supports connecting multiple controllers, but only acts as one controller, so it is unsuitable for Multiplayer games. DS4 and X1 controller analog sticks read as analog input, but Joycon (you can connect both, and use them at the same time, because they do not share inputs) analog sticks are read as DIGITAL input. From what I can tell, Joycon motion is not supported. I was unable to test other controllers.

I was unable to test use with PS3.

Given the Mayflash Magic-NS has the ability to update firmware, should it ever get locked out, we should get an update to fix it. In addition, other software problems I have with the device (only 1 controller output, digital Joycon analogs on PC, no motion control) could be fixed at a future date. As of writing, the Magic-NS is not listed on Mayflash’s support site .

The Magic-NS is a pretty great buy for a single player gamer, or even a multiplayer gamer (if you buy multiples), who yearns for a more normal controller. Its lack of motion controls sucks, as it renders Zelda: Breath of the Wild almost unplayable (unless you skip or switch controllers for motion puzzles), and Mario Odyssey is almost certainly going to be unplayable. However, it works great for fighting games, indie games, and Mario Kart. I look forward to using it to play Smash or Animal Crossing, if they ever come out, or other JRPGs. Its ability to be used docked, and have firmware updates already puts it ahead of the FastSnail adapter, for only a few dollars extra. If it allows any X360 fight stick to be used on Switch (which it should, but I’m unable to test), it’s a must buy for anyone who player fighting games. For a PC user, the ability to use the joycons as a single controller is nice, but digital sticks and no motion controls kills almost any usefulness, though you could use them to play multiplayer games in emulators. 7/10.

TURBO SETUP:
