fglrx drivers for ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650

I installed Mint 17 Cinnamon RC.

If i install fglrx driver from driver manager, I get the famous black screen at the computer boot (I can’t do anything if i get this black screen).

I tried to install fglrx standard driver, fglrx-updates and the official ATI Catalyst driver from AMD Site. I get the black screen without differences.

I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 (supported as indicated in AMD site), on an ACER Asprire 5553G.

I would use ati driver because i’m using this PC for gaming (with Steam installed). Some games doesn’t work with the open source driver, like Amnesia: The Dark Descent (I get Segment fault error if i start it with open source driver).

I have two video cards in my notebook (the internal card and the ATI card) but in the bios i set Discrete mode.

Господа, нарисовалась еще одна проблема с этой чертовой видеокартой, владельцем которой я являюсь. Ноут мой был еле живой из-за пыли, я чувствовал себя нейрохирургом, прочищая его от нее. В итоге он заработал. Я сразу же вкатил на него openSUSE 13.1, решил поставить проприетарный драйвер, ставил по мануалу, ребут иии. Консоль. Startx и все дела. «Cannot create XServer». WTF?! Удаляю драйвер, возвращаю обычный, ребут. Все нормально. Стоит пробовать fglrx-legacy? Еще варианты есть?

Старое, ненужное самой АМД фуфло.

Решенья ниет.
Есть только костыль — свободный драйвер :-)))))))
самого Linux kernel.

Короче говоря, ты сам всё взял и сломал. Для этих карт используется драйвер идущий в самом ядре. Достаточный для использования почти всех возможностей твоей видяшки.

ну почему же?
у меня встроенная HD4200 прекрасно справляется с линуксом, даже уже согласен поставить его на ноут, за исключением того, что нет нужного мне софта чуть более, чем полностью. Т.е. заковыка в GPS, сам то модуль работает, но «сладенький софтик» только под Шин7

у меня 5450, всё работает чикаго, на дефолтных дровах, свободных. только я подключал репу стороннюю чтобы стало ещё лучше.

hd2600, на свободных дровах. Пришлось ставить ядро 3.11, чтобы ноут не грелся как печка. А так поддержку этих карт уже давно дропнули, емнип

Есть прямо очень большой шанс, что у тебя там не одна эа карта, а две: интегрированная HD4250 и дискретная HD5650. В биосе интеграшка обычно не выключается.

На оффтопике в любых более-менее свежих официальных драйверах это сочетание официально не работает никак. Но работает с вот этой самопальной сборкой (гибрид из последнего mobility и legacy):

На линупсе Legacy тоже самое скорее всего не прокатит.

Т.е если у тебя реально две карты то юзать ты можешь только открытый драйвер и дискретку через PRIME.

Чувак, спасибо тебе огромное за разъяснение! Поставил legacy и всё стало прекрасно работать.

Свежие открытые драйвера точно будут работать лучше чем Legacy. Плюс если накатишь свежее ядро то вероятно будет работать runpm (Runtime Power Management) и дискретка будет автоматически вырубаться когда не используется через PRIME.

он поддерживает только видеокарты радеон 24хх-49хх. И 5650 не умеет. Кроме того он не умеет ядра новее 3.4 и Хсервер новый

Ты откуда такой бред выкопал? Умеет Legacy 5XXX 6XXX без проблем. Только он во всех смыслах хуже, чем открытый драйвер.

скорее версия карточки mobility из проприетарных драйверов её поддерживало, вроде как, только 3 релиза, затем поддержку убрали, по причине нестабильной работы связки atI+Intel, забыл уже как называется эта технология (powerplay. ). Причем всё это работало только с ядром Linux 2.6 . лично мне пришлось откатиться до 11.4 чтобы карточка заработала, с более новым ядром драйвер не заведется, но я ноут покупал в то время из-за видеокарты (о проблеме не знал),проц у меня pentium 6000 (интегрированный intel), в биосе отключить нельзя.

ядро Linux 2.6.37.1-1.2-desktop x86_64 catalyst: 11.8 в приложениях всё же получше интела будет.

Working Driver Ati Radeon Mobility HD 5650?

I installed the proprietary fglrx driver and amdccc (or what is it) from synaptic, everything works fine but when i run catalyst control center it says my graphic card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series. So i guess that the driver not supports the 5xxx series so far. I searched the internet but so far I couldn’t find any solution.

And there is a proof that i really have 5650:

Can’t see any option to do that in BIOS.

I assumed that the driver is too old, but don’t know how to update it correctly.

To make some things correct, i’m using a laptop.

Same here, even with the new 12.1 Catalyst drivers. I also tried using aticonfig to set up all the adapters but it doesn’t work.

This thread is about problems when you have TWO ATI video cards installed, one is being used by default, and you can’t use the other one.

If you other folks do NOT have that problem, please go start your own threads — as trying to solve DIFFERENT problems in the same thread makes the situation too confusing.

That said, this sounds like it may be solvable using the switchable (hybrid) graphics solutions — read below:

I know, that’s why i asked for help in this thread. I also have two ati cards, and I can use only one of them. The link YOU suggested is not useful, we are trying to use the CATALYST drivers, the open source drivers have bad power management and overheat the notebook. Thanks anyway for the suggestion.

did you solved problem? i have same issue, besides when i’m using fglrx system is too slower. So i decided to use open source drivers and vgaswitcheroo for some time while developers are not solved this problem

If your system truly has the HD 5650 then the proprietary ATI drivers should show that. Are you sure you are using the proprietary drivers from AMD or are you using the open source drivers that Ubuntu detects and allows you to install via the «Additional Drivers»?

My suggestion is this. go to the AMD site here and download the correct driver package for your system:

Then follow the instructions contained in the following link to completely uninstall what you currently have installed and then install the AMD proprietary drivers:

If you follow the instructions you will have the right AMD proprietary drivers and you will get the full performance benefit of your ATI graphics. I am willing to bet that after you do that the AMD Catalyst Control Center app will report the correct graphics.

i’m tried this instructions several times but all the same, system uses integrated ati 4200 and can’t switch to 5650
