[en] Keenetic routers support multiple simultaneous uplink connections (this feature is sometimes called Multi-WAN ). It is possible, for example, to plug in two Ethernet cables from different ISPs to the same Keenetic router and set up a primary and a backup connection, or you can, for instance, use a dedicated Internet connection via Ethernet for a primary link, and an Internet connection via a 3G/4G, LTE modem as a backup.
[en] Every Keenetic device supports this feature set.

[en] The connection backup (redundancy) mechanism in the KeeneticOS will trigger if at least one of the following occurs:
- [en] A link (physical connection) is lost on an active interface;
- [en] A Ping Check function determines that an active connection fails the test;
- [en] A device administrator turns off an interface.
[en] Each time any of the above conditions are met, the system will switch to the gateway of the next highest-priority available connection with access to the Internet. Please see the Connection priorities article for more information on Internet connection priorities and using connection profiles.
[en] Let’s take a closer look at the example of connecting a Keenetic router to two different ISPs over a leased Ethernet line and configuring the backup of the main Internet channel.
[en] The primary Internet channel should be connected to the router’s blue port 0 ( WAN/Internet ). The cable of the backup Internet channel can be connected to any of its available ports.
- [en] Configure the primary Internet connection according to the instructions in Internet connection via Ethernet. Here, we use automatic IP address assignment:
[en] The Ping Check mechanism is enabled on this primary connection. It will continuously test whether the Internet connection is working properly. In the event of a failure of the main network connection, the Keenetic router will automatically switch to the alternate channel. When the main connection is restored, it will return to it. It is recommended to enable Ping Check on the main connection.
[en] After completing the primary connection setup, make sure that the Internet connection has been established.
[en] Then set up Internet access according to the conditions of your ISP connection. [en] For example, we set up a wired backup Internet connection with an auto IP assignment, called ‘ Provider 2 ‘ this time:
[en] To check the functionality, disconnect the main ISP network cable from the router’s blue port 0 ( WAN/Internet ). [en] The KeeneticOS will automatically switch to the backup channel if the primary connection is impossible to establish.
[en] When using Multi-WAN on a router to load balance Internet connections, you can configure the binding of certain devices to different Internet connections using Policy-Based Routing (PBR). Refer to the instructions for more information:

Самое замечательное, что с помощью простого USB-хаба можно подключить сразу несколько USB-модемов!
Порядок резервирования задается расстановкой приоритетов, а скорость реакции на обрыв связи — включением непрерывной проверки наличия доступа в интернет, которую мы буквально называем Ping Check. Прелесть этой функции в «Кинетиках» еще и в том, что если обрыв связи происходит в USB-модеме, система перезагрузит модем по питанию.
В более широком сетевом смысле «Кинетики» позволяют создавать множественные подключения, как физические, так и логические, в том числе вложенные. Например, можно резервировать не одного физического интернет-провайдера другим, а два (или больше) VPN-подключения.
Наконец, упомянем здесь еще одну очень полезную и тесно связанную особенность, которая есть только в «Кинетиках». Совершенно нормально, что резервное подключение (скажем, через 3G/4G-модем) может не иметь белого IP-адреса. А что тогда делать, если именно в этот модем понадобился доступ к интернет-центру или ресурсам домашней сети? В этом случае спасает наш фирменный облачный сервис KeenDNS. Если он работает в режиме «через облако», то совершенно всё равно, белый IP-адрес у активного подключения или серый: по протоколам HTTP/HTTPS вы сможете получить веб-доступ и к управлению интернет-центром, и к домашним устройствам. Если нужно только первое, можно воспользоваться нашим мобильным приложением.
Continuous Reliable Internet Connection Features
Your Keenetic gives you the freedom to use more than one ISP regardless of the connection types and service packages you have signed up for. A real stand out feature of your Keenetic is the capacity to connect easily to multiple ISPs simultaneously for failover and load balancing using DSL, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and 3G/4G links. If you experience a break in service from an ISP your Keenetic router will automatically and seamlessly switch to a different working ISP so your smart home will stay smart 24/7.
All Keenetic devices have this feature, however the types of connection is model dependent.
- Keenetic Starter, Keenetic Sprinter, Keenetic Glider and Keenetic Explorer models are ready to accept as many ISPs as it has ports in its manageable switch, plus one connection can be wireless (WISP mode) through a Wi-Fi network provider.
- Keenetic Hopper, Carrier, Hero and Titan models, in addition to the described above features, have another option to connect to the Internet — a variety of 3G/4G/LTE USB modems.
- Keenetic Hopper DSL and Keenetic Carrier DSL, on top of that, have built-in ADSL2/VDSL modem, which adds another connection option.
Cleverly, Keenetic routers can cope with the situation where your backup ISP doesn’t include a global IP address. This is a unique feature of Keenetic routers called KeenDNS. Running KeenDNS in Cloud Mode you can get web access to both router management and home devices via HTTP/HTTPS protocols.
