Install Linux Mint Icon Missing

This is probably the saddest newbie question ever but its simple. I have booted to the live environment, I am actually using it as I type this a, and the «Install Linux» icon is missing. Browsing through the control panel and applications menu I cant for the life of me find any way to actuall install Mint to the hard drive.

I searched google, and even searched these forums using broad and exact (quoted) seaches. Nothing. I feel like an idiot.

I figured it out. I restarted and used the boot loader to select «Install». Thanks!

ok i have the same issue, attempting to install from live usb created with unetbootin. On my boot menu i can only choose:
Start mint
Start mint (compatibility mode)
Check system integrity
test memory

there is no install option and when i get to desktop there is no install icon

The computer i am building is an Intel NUC and doesn’t have internet because its too far from the router and doesn’t have wireless, once i get the os installed and turn on remote access (VNC) i’m gonna move it to the router and administer it remotely.

solved my own problem.
the first live USB i let unetbootin auto download the iso..

i created a new one by downloading the ISO my self and then using unetbootin to create the USB

i guess whatever resource unetbooting uses was missing the icon.

had what appeared to be a successfully install but computer will not recognize the internal hard drive as a bootable drive (i have to boot from usb still, once in, it sees the hard drive and the bios sees it too before booting.

looked in the hard drive and i see an efi folder and a grub one so it appears to have installed correctly. i had the drive formatted as GUID at one point when trying another OS. gonna try to reformat to MBR and see if it fixes my issue. or maybe some bios changes.

well this is off topic so i will trouble shoot and repost new issues in the correct section

Installation icon is not there

This is the first time I have used Linux. I downloaded Linux Mint 14.1 mate version and booted it from a disk. I am now running the operating system through the disk but no installation icon appeared like it’s apparently supposed to. The default linux mint background appeared and I have the menu bar at the bottom of the screen. There is a blank unresponsive window in the middle of the desktop but no icons appeared. How can I fix this?

Sounds like a bad burn
Did you run the media check? You can see this if at the 10 second count down when you boot the cd, press a key and the menu should show.

It is showing. It does the 10 second countdown and after a while the menu and desktop pop up, there’s just no icons on the desktop. The guide doesn’t really offer any help as to how you can get the icons.

Reboot with the cd
And at the very start of the boot there is a 10 second count down, press spacebar or something to get the boot menu and choose to check the media for errors

Or just burn a new disk but do it slowly!

By meaning media check means to check Md5Sum.

you can also create a bootable USB and install the system. It works faster than DVD.
You can also add other data after you have created a bootable USB, but to create a bootable USB. you should first empty USB and then create a bootable one.

I have used unetbootin and winmd5free to check md5sum

Md5sum can be found on the downlaod’s page. It is like a fingerprint which will only match if the ISO file is doenloaded properly. Anyminor error would create another Md5sum.

I pressed buttons at the 10 second countdown thing and nothing happened. Now the icons are appearing on the desktop and everything looks fine but when I click on the install icon nothing happens, and if I right click and hit open it says «loading administrator program» or whatever but then, a while after clicking it, the screen just goes black but the cursor is still there.

Then it might be some another problem.

Do you have a dedicated graphic card like Nvidia, etc. Is the display looking fine. After booting into LIVE DVD, does it say that you have some proprietary drivers.

It may be a graphic card issue.

DO you have more than one RAM? if yes, then there may be some weird thing which you cannot expect. If yes then please remove extra RAM. After installation install RAM and things will work right. There have been such cases in the past.

Please can you give your PC configuration.

Also try to download 32 bit version (if you have downloaded 64 bit) or download it another time. Make Bootable USB using Unetbootin.

Please refer this post for creating bootable USB

If you have unlimited MB broadband, you may also try to download XFCE or cinnamon version or maybe Xubuntu or Ubuntu.

How To Install Icon Themes In Linux Mint Cinnamon [Beginner Tip]

If you think the default Mint themes and icons are not good enough for you, why not change it? In this quick tip for beginners, we shall see how to install icon themes in Linux Mint 18 and more than that how to change the icons in Linux Mint. We shall see this quick tutorial by installing gorgeous Paper icon theme.

Just a quick note, if you do not know it already, there is a difference between ‘themes’ and ‘icon themes’. An icon theme just changes the look of icons while a theme changes a lot of other things along with the looks of icons.

Install icon themes in Linux Mint 18:

There are two ways to install icon themes in Linux Mint (and many other Linux distributions, if not all). If you download the icon theme in a zipped folder, you can extract it in ~/.icons directory. Usually, this directory does not exist. Feel free to create it.

The second way to install an icon theme is using a PPA. Most of the standard and popular icon themes have their own PPA. Lets see how to install Moka icons set in Mint using PPA.

Install Paper icon set in Linux Mint 18:

Open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and use the following commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:snwh/pulp sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install paper-icon-theme

Change icons in Linux Mint 18:

Changing an icon theme in Ubuntu was straight forward. It is slightly hidden in Linux Mint though. Once you have installed the icon themes, go to Settings from the Menu. And then go to Themes.

Now you might have realized why I said that changing the icon is slightly hidden in Linux Mint. It is inside Themes option. To change only the icon, click on Icons there.

You’ll see all the icons set available here. Choose the one you like.

The changes will be reflected immediately. No need of a restart. Here is how my Linux Mint desktop looks after applying Moka icon themes:

Installer icon missing (Solved)

I had created a remastered Mint 19.2 Mate iso. Installed it to USB. USB boots fine but there is no installer icon.

Might there be a CLI I can try from terminal?

Does your remastered .iso contain the installer, Ubiquity? It’s not present on any version of Mint after installation.
