Здравствуйте! Я уже месяц не могу нигде в Инете найти драйвер для старого принтера MB 214. Те.
Мне нужен драйвер формата .ppd для Linux. Именно .ppd. Система закрытая и я не могу модифицировать другие её части, как то обновить cups и т.д.
Если кто-нибудь встречался с данной проблеммой — пожалуйста, помогите, чем сможете. Хотя бы ссылкой, куда дальше идти. Гуглил — пришёл сюда.

PS: In windows IBM ProPrinter II driver is used for olivetti pr2 plus but when i use the same driver in linux it prints junk.
Cups can do this. together with ghostscript to convert standard postscript to one of the several emulations supported by the olivetti.
(lq850 is equivalent to lq 2550)
ibmpro is equivalent to ibm pp emulation)
oh cups printing system is almost standard in all current distributions. And ghostscript almost allways is a requirement for installing cups.

For scanner part you have to check SANE
I think SLES has all drivers included.
You can also try OpenSUSE liveCD to detect hardware — if you do not have driver in SLES you can ask support to include one in next patch.
i have tried this printer driver
Epson LQ2550
Epson LQ500
Epson LQ570
with Olivetti PR2 Plus and it works fine but the print quality with this drivers are not good and unreadable for old ppl. more over if i go above 60x72dpi the printer gives all junk values.
when i print in windows with IBM pro printer driver the print quality is really gd.
pls help my project is on big hold for this.

Download printer manuals
Check for available EMULATIONS
Try all of them, probably one with smallest spool file size is the best.
Same is true for some native-protocol printers which offer also PCL5 like cheap-end HP DeskJets etc etc.

Dear all, i have the same problem. And even with the IBM Proprinter II driver, the printer prints junk. The only drivers that ressamble at least some readable print are the LQ ones from Epson. Dead end here.
Any help or advice?
I need to print ffrom Java application (Jasper reports) but it’s not readable under Linux Suse. 🙁
Do you have exactly the same printer?
Where do you choose the driver — in CUPS or in Jasper?
Maybe ask a question in Printer + Suse + Java areas.
Short checklist:
1) check that your app generates postscript
2) Check cups error logs for missing filters
3) it might boil down to code sample around actual report printing in your app

What I usually do and what is my usual approach when loading new drivers:
1. I open YaST2 Control Center and via the option PRINTER I add a printer and choose a driver
2. I check the «Printer Options» in PRINTER PROPERTIES and look for dpi seetings. So far the 60×72 resolution is fine, anything higher prints junk 🙁
3. On the PRINTER PROPERTIES screen in SETTINGS tab i click on «Print Test Page» option down below to test the printing.
The printer itself runs through the parallel cable into my USB/Parallel converter, and is connected in USB port of my laptop. So there is no network printing, everything is local. I do not print from the Jasper Reports, unless I have some confidence, the printing output might be of some good quality.
Printer is running the IBM ProPrinterII emulation and I was first trying these drivers obviouslly.
I’m not the Linux expert, so i am not sure, if i’m testing the printer in CUPS or directly (via the Printer settings).

Gheist: what does that mean? What is actually the OpenPrintingPPDs-ghostscri pt package? Can I download it somewhere? Or is it just using and testing each of the ghostscript drivers?

Driver for Olivetti PR2 Plus (SuSe)
Hello all,
my Olivetti printer can’t print any text in Linux SuSe with all possible and available drivers.
All it prints is just the mishmash characters and even some drivers seem to be close to readable printing — e.g. Epson LQ-2550 (epsonc.pdd), it is not usable for passbook printing at all.
I am in desperate need of solving this problem. I have changed the printer twice already, have upgraded from old one Olivetti PR2 to this new one Olivetti PR2 Plus. Unfortunatelly, there is no change in printing quality.
I have also tried to reply to one of the similar questions in this forum, unfortunatelly it was closed by one of the experts as solved. My problem, however, is not solved yet. That’s why i’m opening this thread.

I am using the parallel port for connecting to the laptop, am printing directly, there is no network connected. I am setting the driver either in CUPS or directly in the OS in PRINTER menu by adding a new printer and specifying the driver manufacturer and type of the printer.
I have this as a project for client, who is switching from Win to Linux on his desktops and needs to print from Java (Jasper Reports) his passbooks. In Windows he uses IBM ProPrinter II driver, which prints flawlessly.
Also in Linux, the application in Jasper Reports prints without an issue on other printers (e.g. EPSON AL-CX21), but not the Olivetti. I hope someone here will help me to solve this issue.
