The password is displayed in the settings and can be changed there as well. You can also change the broadcast id name. I think you access it by hovers big over the hot spot and hitting the option button.

Im trying to connect my iPhone X to my car WiFi for screen mirroring etc, particularly so I can have the data from the M performance drive analyser appear on the HUD.

When I search for WiFi I have the hotspot WiFi, which is fine, and then the BMW-Direct. xxx WiFi, which I assume is the connection to the car. The manual says just connect, but Im being prompted for a password. any ideas?

BMW supports Miracast, not AirPlay.

Also worth noting the wireless screen mirroring protocol is separate from Apple CarPlay.

You can jailbreak your phone to mirror apps via CarPlay and/or install apps to support Miracast.

So I cant connect to the car WiFi?

What about for music or the m performance app? The WiFi is there I just need a password

So does nobody else connect to the direct WiFi that the car produces?? Do others even see this WiFi network available in their car? If so can someone please try to connect and see if their iphone requests a password.

Much appreciated! Its driving me a little mad as the drive analyser keeps telling me to connect to the vehicle WiFi to allow full support with HUD .

Make sure you dont connect to the other WiFi network also available in the vehicle (with a name starting with DIRECT)

Here are the instructions:

All the photos online show the analyzer does not work with the OEM HUD.

I’m not trying to be a sour sport. If I knew the analyzer integrated in the way you suggested I’d would have it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately I for the life of me can’t find any evidence of it doing what your asking.

No no. I appreciate your efforts! Its just frustrating! Lol

Perhaps its just not able to connect with the Built in HUD as you say. dammit lol.

Otherwise. the device is good fun but I wouldnt have paid as much as some places are selling it for!!

Yes. I get that thanks.

The «BMW-DirectXXXX» Wifi is not meant to be user accessible.
That is part of the Wirelss CarPlay system where initial handshake/setup has to done by BlueTooth to set up the Wifi connection. So no, you cannot connect to it yourself directly.

The only one you can connect to is the «My Hotspot XXXX» Wifi if you car comes with such feature. But that’s only for Internet access and won’t help what you want.
