All PPD files of this driver entry are available in the PostScript Printer Application
Under this entry Epson’s PPD files for their PostScript printers are hosted. PostScript printers are supported natively in Linux and Unix environments, so you only need the PPD file for your printer, no driver executables, to get access to all printing functionality. The PPD contains all information about properties and user-settable options which are specific to the printer and makes printing dialogs show these options and allow the user to control all the printer’s functionality.
The PPDs only support the printing functionality of the printers. To use extra functionality, like scanning, faxing, . you will perhaps need additional software.

Make sure snap support is enabled in your Desktop store.
Install using the command line
sudo snap install ps-printer-app --edgeps-printer-app is only available on the unstable edge channel. It could break and change often.

If you want to use a PostScript printer under any Snap-supporting operating system this is the software to use. It already support several thousands of different printer models and if your PostScript printer is not explicitly supported, you can add its PPD file (PostScript Printer Description file, comes with the printer’s Windows/Mac/Linux drivers) or resort to generic PostScript support.
If your PostScript printer is from HP you can alternatively use the HPLIP Printer Application (https://snapcraft.io/hplip-printer-app). Use the HPLIP Printer Application if you want to print and scan simultaneously on a multi-function device and PostScript Printer Application if you want to be able to query your printer for its installed accessories (like extra trays, finisher, duplex, . ).
This Printer Application emulates a driverless IPP network printer (IPP Everywhere) for each physical printer set up with it, so your computer’s printing environment discovers it automatically and makes your printer(s) available for printing. Like on a physical network printer there is a web interface for administration, here especially also for adding and configuring printers. You find it with your browser under https://localhost:8000/ . Note that currently printers have to get added via the web interface to use them. In the future, there will be utilities to easily find non-driverless printers and find the correct Printer Application for them.
With modern printers usually being driverless IPP printers, classic printer drivers, installed under CUPS by its web interface or a printer setup tool, are deprecated and replaced by Printer Applications which emulate driverless IPP printers as this one.

Драйверы принтеров CUPS состоят из одного или нескольких фильтров, упакованных в формате PPD (PostScript Printer Description).
Все принтеры в CUPS (даже не поддерживающие PostScript) должны иметь файл PPD с описанием принтеров, специфических команд и фильтров.
Фильтры, занимающие центральное место в CUPS, преобразуют задания печати в формат, понятный принтеру (PDF, HP-PCL, растровый формат и т. п.), а также передают команды для выполнения таких операций, как выбор страницы и сортировка. Файлы PPD являются текстовыми и хранятся в каталоге /usr/share/cups/model. Файлы PPD установленных принтеров хранятся в каталоге /etc/cups/ppd.
Поиск драйверов
В комплект поставки CUPS входят универсальные файлы PPD для сотен моделей принтеров, но если производитель какой-либо модели принтера не предоставил драйвер для Linux, то существуют следующие ресурсы с драйверами:
Foomatic — бесплатный проект, объединяющий все распространенные системы печати Linux (CUPS, LPRng, LPD, GNUlpr, PPR, PDQ, CPS).
Проект Gimp-Print изначально был задуман в качестве модуля печати для Gimp, но позднее его рамки были расширены до общей поддержки печати в Linux. Драйверы Gimp-Print отличаются высочайшим качеством.
Пакеты Gimp-Print и Foomatic гарантируют полноту набора драйверов и наличие всех обязательных подсистем.
Перед приобретением принтера следует обязательно свериться со списком совместимости оборудования установленного дистрибутива Linux или с базой данных принтеров Open Printing.
