About ArchLabs Linux

ArchLabs Linux is a Linux distribution (distro) launched by two guys with a love of BunsenLabs and Arch Linux.

The original vision behind ArchLabs was to take the look of BunsenLabs and put it on top of an Arch Linux system as Arch has more up-to-date packages. The speed and simplicity of Pacman and of course the Arch User Repository (AUR) are just added bonuses.

Now that ArchLabs have become established we have developed our own look. We have kept true to our legacy by keeping our ISO images as minimal as possible and adding only core applications and utilities.

ArchLabs is a rolling release. No longer do you have to do a full reinstall or distribution upgrade when a new release is available. A simple update is all you need to do. You install ArchLabs once and continue on your way.

Highlights of ArchLabs Linux:

  • Live Session using dk Window Manager.
  • Minimal desktop environment.
  • Easy installation using the ‘ArchLabs Installer’.
  • Based on Arch Linux.
  • Minimal themes.
  • Available Window Manager’s include dk, Openbox, i3wm, Bspwm, dwm. Install these from the `ArchLabs Installer`.
  • Freely switch between panels and docks with ease.
  • Conky & Tint2 available where necessary.
  • Adwaita GTK theme is set as the default theme.
  • The custom ArchLabs Iconset is the default icon theme.
  • ArchLabs Applications and scripts are included.
  • Keyboard driven.
2023.06.07 is our latest release.

TeX Live package reorganization

Starting from version 2023.66594-9, TeX Live packages have been reorganized to mirror upstream collections. Even though the new texlive-basic replaces the old texlive-core , many of the texlive-core contents (including language specific files) are now split between different packages. To find out which Arch package contains a specific CTAN package, you can use the tlmgr utility, eg.

$ tlmgr info euler | grep collection collection: collection-latexrecommended

which means the euler CTAN package is contained in texlive-latexrecommended . You may also use pacman -F to query for specific files.

A new metapackage texlive-meta is available to install all subpackages (except for language specific ones), and the new texlive-doc package provides the full documentation for offline use.

OpenBLAS >= 0.3.23-2 update requires manual intervention

The openblas package prior to version 0.3.23-2 doesn’t ship optimized LAPACK routine and CBLAS/LAPACKE interfaces for compatibility. This decision has been reverted now, and the ability to choose a different default system BLAS/LAPACK implementation while keeping openblas installed is now provided to allow future co-installation of BLIS, ATLAS, etc.

The default BLAS implementation will be used for most packages like NumPy or R. Please install «blas-openblas» and «blas64-openblas» to make OpenBLAS the default BLAS implementation, just like the old behavior.

Unfortunately you will get errors on updating if you currently have OpenBLAS installed as the default BLAS implementation:

Git migration completed

We are proud to announce that the migration to Git packaging succeeded! 🥳

Thanks to everyone who has helped during the migration!

Package sources are now available on GitLab. Note that the bugtracker is still flyspray and that merge requests are not accepted as of now. We intend to open the issue tracker and merge requests on the Gitlab package repos in the near future.

Mirrors are syncing again, but it may take a bit of time until your mirror of choice has caught up.

For users

Update your system and merge the pacman pacnew /etc/pacman.conf.pacnew file. This is …

Git migration announcement

This Friday morning (2023-05-19) the Git packaging migration will start until Sunday (2023-05-21). The Arch Linux packaging team will not be able to update packages in any of the repositories during this period.

Notification when the migration starts, and when it is completed, will be published on the [arch-dev-public] mailing list.

How does this impact Arch Linux users?

The [testing] repository will be split into [core-testing] and [extra-testing] , the [staging] repository will be split into [core-staging] and [extra-staging] . The [community] repository will be merged into [extra] and will therefore be empty after the migration.

All affected repositories will …

Switch to the base-devel meta package requires manual intervention

On February 2nd, the base-devel package group has been replaced by a meta package of the same name.
If you installed the base-devel package group prior to this date, explicitly re-install it to get the new base-devel package installed on the system:

Arch Linux

I bought a new laptop this month and ripped off the OEM Win7 on it. I want a «Powered by Arch Linux» sticker on my laptop. I find two sites which is selling Arch sticker.

Which site would have the money dropped into Arch Linux development if I buy on it?

Does the unit on schwag mean «one sticker» or «one piece of stickers»?

Re: Powered by Arch Linux sticker?

the schwag page is run by dusty, a forum fellow, im sure he’s got a deal with archlinux. i dont know about zazzle.

Re: Powered by Arch Linux sticker?

Welcome to Arch Linux Schwag. If you are interested in purchasing custom Arch Linux apparel, mugs, stickers, shoes, or magnets, please visit the Arch Schwag Shop hosted by Zazzle. A portion of each sale made on zazzle goes to supporting Arch Linux development.

This page was created to fill a void in the Zazzle offerings. We have had several custom Arch Linux novelty items created and are distributing them for your enjoyment. A portion of profits from these sales go towards supporting Arch Linux development.

Please note: Many of these products are created on demand or in short supply and can take a while to ship. Expect delays of two to three weeks before products ship, and an additional one to two weeks for delivery time.

I ordered 5 from the schwag store today. The zazzle one look like a round circle with the logo within, whereas the schwag ones look really professional.

Yep. schwag one looks cool.

Re: Powered by Arch Linux sticker?

If you check menu here at http://schwag.archlinux.ca/product/laptopsticker/ then you can see Zazzle hyperlink on the top-right corner so I think both are semi-official but the price is different so I am confused.

Re: Powered by Arch Linux sticker?

Zazzle is a commercial store that pays royalties to Arch for every item sold.

Schwag is run by a volunteer, directly for Arch.

I would guess schwag ends up giving a higher % of the money to Arch.

Not sure whether Dusty actually gives anything to Arch, actually. You’d want to check with him for that (probably does, but if it doesn’t say so best to ask).

He does and has brought percentages in a few threads here.

I bought a couple of these stickers from the schwag and I really like them!

Just wanted to add I have just received my case stickers and am very impressed. The quality is indistinguishable from the manufacturers stickers I removed.

Re: Powered by Arch Linux sticker?

Thanks to Aaron approving the usage of Arch Linux logo on a sticker there is now a new place to buy those nifty little Arch Linux stickers; LibreStickers.com.
There are two options to choose from; satin white background and brushed aluminium.
0,10€ per sold sticker will be donated back to the project (online donation page coming in few months)
