Do not update the firmware
Or else the system will be stuck in an infinite loop which has no easy fix. Error code 8992f1f2. I have now a nice big black brick.
There aren’t many warnings on the internet. So this is my little grain of salt to prevent further ps3s going full brick.
I think I’m done with consoles. Bought two x360 arcade back in the days and both died withing a year. Moved on with my life and bought a ps3 4 years ago. Now is dead.
Could you clarify whether you mean one or both of bluetooth and wifi stop working? And do you mean before, during, or after the firmware update?

Could you clarify whether you mean one or both of bluetooth and wifi stop working? And do you mean before, during, or after the firmware update?
Both, since they are controlled by a single chip. I noticed my controllers wouldn’t sync, and my ps3 didn’t could’t connect to wifi either. I did some research and found out that this wifi/bluetooth board needed reballing or replacement or something. I said f*** it and continued playing with the usb cord and the ethernet cable.
Time passed and a update sign pop out. While it was installing the update the ps3 throw me a error message (8002f1f9). I thought it was a corrupt update or something, but i was so annoyed that didn’t give a f*** and put the ps3 in the closet.
Today I bought a new HD for the ps3, doing what I was told. But it was no use. The same error shows even when installing a clean firware on a brand new hard drive.
A couple hours ago — after many months- in this same site, found out that the damn wifi/bluetooth chip was the culprit. I can’t do s*** about it since the thing is actually soldered to the motherboard, unlike other models which feature a module version.
That sucks, but for what it’s worth, it’s good to know.
I suppose buying USB adapters for the wifi and bluetooth wouldn’t erase the issue of the firmware attempting to update the soldered wifi/bluetooth adapter? They probably wouldn’t be able to replace or take the place of the soldered chip’s part in the system, but I just wonder (let alone that the controller may not communicate with a USB dongle. ).

Sorry to hear that, thanks for the warning anyway. Just out of interest what caused your wifi/bluetooth chip to fail? I connect my super slim via wifi every day so I suppose it’s bound to go at some point.
Ps3 slim no wifi or bluetooth
I recently updated my unmodified PS3 with a broken WiFi and Bluetooth module and was stuck in the infinit Update loop with an 8002F1F0 error. I had heard of varying success of pulling the drive at certain intervals that would «skip» the bluetooth check, and decided to give it a serious go to see if I could get it working again.
- PS3 is a CECH-2100A
- Firmware used was HFW 4.85.1 ( Link )
- Bluetooth / WiFi Module broken
And here are steps that I used to resolve:
- Find a new 2.5″ drive that you can use (you can also use your ps3 drive, but the data will be completely unrecoverable which wasn’t a concern for me)
- Connect the drive to a windows machine
- Wipe the drive as MBR and create a 30GB FAT32 partition
- Insert back into the PS3
- Run through the setup process which will format the drive
From here I was receiving the errors (as expected) but at 34% with the Firmware above. I then documented the Hard drive read times to see if I could find out what was going on. From what I determined, the Hard Drive was reading at 21% and consistently reading until 30%.
- 33% pull — Error (error @ 35)
- 32% pull — Error (error @ 35)
- 30% pull — Error (error @ 35)
- 28% pull — Error (error @ 47)
- 20% pull — Jumps to 38% and completed!
With the 20% pull, I pulled the Hard disk for 3 (quick?) seconds and re-inserted. The hard drive was pulled BEFORE the 21% read listed above. The disk light was then solid yellow for around 3-5 minutes while the system paused and then shot up to 38% where I saw the disk light resume activity. From there it completed normally with no other action needed from me.
I had tried a number of official Sony Firmware versions to no avail, but also didn’t document them near as much as I did this version. What I suspect (at least on the 4.85.1 firmware listed above) is that the second read between 21% and 30% is entirely on the Bluetooth / Wifi module. But, that’s just a wild guess.
Also, this thread helped a ton in providing guidance to the problem.
I hope this helps someone!

PS3 Slim , no wifi , no blutooth?

My sons ps2 died, it stopped reading discs. So, I replaced it with a PS3, about a week later I decided to run it wired to my BT smart hub. All was fine for a day or so until the controllers failed to sync. I tried to connect wirelessly and nothing.
So far I have done a complete reset, it ran for 18 hours, upon completion it was able to see my bt hub and connect , then after a few minutes it went back to not being able to connect. I tried another full reset but this time it didnt work.
To me this looks software related, or settings related (im not savvy to these things) as a dull reset did fix it the first time around.
If I try to connect on Easy mode it just hangs there checking network configuration.
If I go custom I get to ‘scan’ then get this,
If I hit circle and try again I get this,
My son is six and there is a fair chance he may have adjusted some settings without knowing he did it, but would this have carried over on a factory reset?
If it is hardware related I believe the wifi/BT is on a module on the mother board and not a seperate card , I also believe there are two antennas , could the issue be with the antennas?
The unit also seems to be getting hot, just towards the very back , at the top and bottom, is this normal?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
