Can’t get WiFi to work on Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377

I had my Acer Aspire E5-574g Laptop for some weeks now and use it in dualboot with Ubuntu and Windows 10. On Windows 10 WiFi is working perfectly fine, no problems at all. But it isn’t working on Ubuntu or other Linuxes at all. I actually want to switch to Linux completely but of course I can’t without working WiFi. I really tried everything I could. I googled for days on how to fix the problem. I didn’t really find that much except for this: Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 wireless not working on lenovo with 14.04.3 Which didn’t help at all for me. Sometimes WiFi is working but extreeemely slow and just for some seconds. It’s connecting (or showing that it’s connected) but doesn’t load anything. It’s actually working with a WiFi dongle but that’s really only a temporary solution for me. I already tried it with Ubuntu and Kali Linux but it never worked, so it seems to be a problem with Linux. I’m about to give up on Linux.

I was experiencing exactly the same issues as you are mentioning, after weeks of useless trouble shooting I spend 40 € getting a Netgear A6100 WIFI USB adapter, now wifi is working stable & fast, 434 Mb/s.

After each kernel update I retry with the Atheros but till now no luck. I agree not the most elegant solution, but a working one

Had the same problem while I was on Router Wifi channel 13 here in Argentina on a Acer Aspire 3. Changed Router Wifi channel to 11 and it appeared and worked with no problem.

I had the same issue on Kali Linux with a Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 802.11ac Wlan the issue in my case was a conflicting firmware.

1 sudo airmon-ng check kill 2 sudo rm /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCA9377/hw1.0/firmware-6.bin 3 sudo ifconfig wlan0 up 4 sudo NetworkManager Start

Line 1 in order to simply kill the processes that may or may not be utilizing the wlan0 card. (your card may be in a different position than mine i.e wlan1, wlan2 etc)

Line 2 is the ultimate fix in my situation as firmware-5.bin is what actually works for QCA9377 You may want to make a back up copy of the firmware-6.bin before you remove it, but I did not care enough to keep the file.

line 3 & 4 simply because I am too lazy to restart the OS and wanted to be online instantly.

Once in the past I had to run sudo ifconfig wlan0 down along with lines 3 & 4 again to get internet access.

I hope this points anyone else in the correct direction as I spent hours searching before finally finding this answer.

Qualcomm Atheros Device [168c:0042] (rev 30) Wi-Fi driver installation

I bought an Acer laptop and installed Ubuntu 14.04LTS but WiFi drivers are not available for it. So I am trying to install a windows driver using wifidocs/driver/ndiswrapper. On doing lspci -vvnn , it gives:

Then I also disabled the atheros drivers. Using lspci and lspci -n , I can say PCI id is 168c:0042 . But Acer website has three atheros drivers. I could not figure out which one to download but downloaded one on a windows PC and pasted the zip file on my desktop then unzipped it from the terminal using unzip .zip . The page says you have to go to control panel system hardware and all that on the windows system. I did not do it. Windows computer not being mine, I am afraid I should not install any additional driver on it. After unzipping it has one .inx file and one .bin file but no .sys file. I don’t know whether I am completely right till here or have I missed something? And if I am right then how to proceed from here? I also made a new directory and copied the unzipped .inx and .bin files in it. Then in that directory I ran the ndiswrapper -i .inf but it says ndiswrapper not installed and when I do sudo apt-get install ndiswrapper-common , I get the reply that ndiswrapper-common is already the latest version. What to do? here is my

Qualcomm Atheros weak Wifi signal on Ubuntu 18.04

I am a newbie to Ubuntu and this is my first post on this forum, so please excuse any mistake. Having said that the issue is after I recently installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, I noticed that my Wifi signal is very weak. I have 2 OS, Windows 10 and Ubuntu 18.04. While Windows 10 shows proper signal, in Ubuntu the signal is very weak. I have not even seen full signal anytime, even though when I am literally sitting next to the router. How to fix Qualcomm Atheros Wifi on Linux

Unfortunately, it’s a pretty common issue (it seems) for Qualcomm Atheros devices on laptops not working properly under Linux Mint / Ubuntu (and potentially others but this fix is specific for said OSs).

The cause for this issue is power management for Qualcomm Atheros devices. I’m assuming this doesn’t happen for every Qualcomm Atheros device… ever, but I’ve certainly seen it happen on Laptops for the last year or two now (even Kernel 5 doesn’t seem to fix this).

Fortunately, it’s a very simple fix once you know this. Unfortunately, if you don’t know this it’s a bit of rabbit hole of all sorts of tests, diagnostics, sanity checks, etc that can be done with all sorts of Wifi related issues. But since you’re here, hopefully this will solve the issue for you.

Disclosure: If this has just started happening to you on your Qualcomm Atheros device, this will not be the fix for your issue as this issue happens from the word go, it’s not something that works fine for a month and then starts being an issue.

sudo nano /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
  • The file’s second line should indicate: “wifi.powersave = 3“. Change it to 2 and reboot.
  • Once back up, make sure the power management for the wireless device is indeed off by running the following command.

Within the information shown, one line should now read “Power Management:off“. If so, the issue should now be hopefully resolved for you.
