hi ,
i am having issues with my bluetooth(ralink rt3290) on HP G1 250 Laptop.
my system is dual boot with window 8.1 and bluetooth works fine in it, i feel like there is no driver installed for bluetooth in mint , i also installed blueman software (and one more , dont remember the name) but its not working, not able to turn on bluetooth, as i said it doesnt show up bluetooth in terminal as well , had to check it by some command to find out that it really exist in the system. On the same time my DEVICE MANGER shows «NO PROPRIETRY DRIVERS ARE IN USE» i am new to linux , but i dont know why it doest show hardwares like it does in windows device manager.
lastly i am not able to use wireless key on keyboard to turn off/on wifi . wifi is always on and working , but F12 key on keyboard , which is for wi-fi always shows orange light , whereas it should show white , like it does in window.

please help , have been trying to make it work from past couple of months ,but no success.

The RT3290 WI-FI drivers for linux

Tested on Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS running on Kernel 5.0.x, it compiles and improves performance of wi-fi signal greatly on this card.

I made this version seeing that almost nobody cared about this card, not even the original vendor Ralink which turned to Mediatek, who just care about the Windows version, and the version that comes with linux kernel out of the box has weak wifi strength as it’s more generic and using the drivers of rt2800pci.

Needs the dkms package from the distro repos or manually compiled. Can be gotten in Ubuntu derivatives by simply doing:

1. $: git clone https://github.com/Borwe/rt3290-linux-drivers.git 2. $: sudo cp -r rt3290sta-2.6.0.0/ /usr/src/ 3. $: sudo dkms install -m rt3290sta -v 2.6.0.0 --force 4. $: sudo reboot
1. $: sudo dkms remove rt3290sta/2.6.0.0 --all 2. $: sudo reboot

After installation, and reboot, you might see there is no wifi, but it’s just that the interface is put down on boot, you can make it auto start on start up yourself or run:

The bluetooth interface on my HP Pavilion g7 (2240us) does not work (it did when Windows 8 was installed on this laptop).

I read with interest another thread here that seemed promising, titled «ralink rt3290 bluetooth not working». My laptop seems to go along with that situation. I repeated some of the same solution tips of that thread with similar results. Yes, I can get the interface to now show up. However, it will not connect to a device (such as a cell phone) — failing authentation and such.

The other thread concludes with «i guess i will try to find out resolution for it on a different page or will start a new one . will consider this as resolved as bluetooth is up and running now.» and marks it as .

Sure the interface is up and running, but if devices can not connect, how can this be «SOLVED»? I could not find a new message thread that continues on to address this. If none exists, then let this start it.

It seems to me that this is really a driver bug issue. So is this being addressed by its support community so that it is just a matter of waiting for a future release to fix it? Or is it just falling through the cracks? Do I need to now invest a lot of time and study to fix this myself? Or are smarter minds focused on this?
