Rar file extract is failed

Install unrar to open and extract rar archives.

1. Open the terminal with ctrl + alt + t
2. Run

Now file-roller should open and extract rar archives without error.

If you cannot install unrar, you need to activate the multiverse repository; but, I assume you have them activated as they are by default.

Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS Gnome 3.36.8 works great. You may have to close/re-open file explorer. I did not have to log out and log back in or reboot my computer.

Something like this happened to me when a file was parted in some files, and I tried this from the command line:

e flag specifies extract to current directory which is unnecessary if you don’t specify an output directory. x flag retains the archive directory structure, which is the default in the GUI and usually preferred: unrar x archivename

I have this problem fixed by installing b1freearchiver:

sudo apt-get install gdebi wget b1.org/smart-download/0/os=deb64/b1freearchiver_current_stable_amd64.deb sudo gdebi b1freearchiver_current_stable_amd64.deb 

good suggestions above. However, what I found is that when I did a cd to the directory with the terminal it showed that it was a ‘string’ instead of a normal file. Then I tested something quick and it worked perfectly: I just deleted the empty space between the words in the filename, and right click ‘extract’ again and it extracted perfectly. So the solution might be that simple for you too, if you have a blank space in the file name. Example:

FILE NAME.rar change to -> FILE_NAME.rar

If you have a blank space in the filename you can also put the filename between single quotes and it also works. No renaming needed

How do you extract a particular directory from a multi-part RAR using unrar CLI

I can’t find any way to do this after searching for hours and trying various things. I’m using rarlab’s free unrar CLI on OS X. I want to extract a single folder and its contents, preserving paths, from a multi-part RAR archive. Seems like a simple enough task but… The help listing is of no help. Someone must have figured this out by now.

I didn’t include anything I tried because nothing worked. I don’t want people to have to wade through posts to get to the code listing that works. I think in a case like this, someone either knows how to do this or they don’t pretty much. But if you insist, the only thing I tried that might be relevant is: unrar l -ap/dir1 filename.part*.rar and variations of this. I got the ‘-ap’ switch from the unrar help listing: ap Set path inside archive . Kind of vague at best but the only thing that seems like it might work.

So much to say; so little space. First of all, I don’t know what you mean by “I don’t want people to have to wade through posts to get to the code listing that works.” Secondly, members of Super User like to see what you’ve tried (1) so we know that you’re invested in the question, and you aren’t just asking us to “do your homework for you,” (2) because it might clarify your problem, and (3) so we can avoid suggesting solutions that have already failed for you. Next … OK, I’m running out of room here, and this is looking more and more like an answer, so I’m going to post the rest as an answer.

Yeah, well many times on these forums, I find a long thread with lots of code blocks that I have to wade through before I get to the right one that has the answer. There’s what the OP tried, then someone else’s speculative code, then yet another one’s speculative code. It’s not obvious which one is the final solution so you have to read many posts before you find the right one. I hoped to avoid that. (part 1)

As far as your comment (1) about being ‘invested’, as you put it, or asking you to do my homework, I find that a bit offhanded. I think «after searching for hours and trying various things» clearly indicates my efforts and I shouldn’t have to be questioned further about that. As for (2), maybe… I’m not sure about (3) because I think someone either knows this or they don’t. Certainly people have encountered this problem and have learned to deal with it and can just give an answer without speculating. At least that’s what I was hoping for. (part 2)

It may shock you to learn this, but some people lie. If you hang around Super User long enough to earn some reputation, people may be more inclined to take you at your word.

Как распаковываются rar-архивы при такой ошибке — (UNRAR 3.71 beta 1 freeware Copyright) ?

Мне бы хотелось узнать о том, как в ОС Kubuntu 8.10 — Linux можно в Консоле распаковывать rar-архивы?

Вот мне сейчас дали программу для создания инфо-файла — «GSpot», она запакована в rar-архив (Хочу научиться заливать аудио,- видеофайлы на торрент треккеры). Возможно, «GSpot» не предназначена для операционной системы Linux, но, в крайней мере будет создана тема по распаковки архивов rar, к которой в дальнейшим смогу обращаться.

установите пакеты rar — для архивирования, unrar — для разархивирования
далее в консоли unrar e imya_arhiva.rar

В чём заключается моя ошибка?

Осмелюсь предположить что Ваш архив называется просто — gspot.rar, следовательно команда конкретно для Вас будет выглядеть так:
unrar e gspot.rar

Надпись в ошибке, как бы намекает нам: UNRAR 3.71 beta 1 freeware Copyright (c) 1993-2007 Alexander Roshal.

Кроме того, я уже два или три сообщения, полные уверянности написал про это — причину и вариант решения.

Я видел Ваш пост Анатолий. Но так же обратите внимание на команду приведенную в моем первом посте и на команду которую вводил автор. А именно: мое
unrar e imya_arhiva.rar
автора
unrar e gspot_arhiva.rar
подозрительного ничего не замечаете?
И даже если автор последует Вашему совету, то его проблемы с No such file or directory, при условии что он будет ту же команду вводить, не решило бы.

Блин, слона то я и не приметил.

Я просто не верил, что можно было слишком буквально понять совет.
Теперь уже мне интересно, что-же там всё таки было.

Ошибка же сама себя описала.. Нету такого файла.

Рошаль *****р. для своего >3.71 winrar сделал закрытый формат. кроме winrar -ом (по моим данным) эту версию как бы RAR архивов не открыть.

Каждый день, мне пользователи мозг *****т этой же проблеммой. unrar везде стоит. «СПАСИБО» ТЕБЕ *** ЕВГЕНИЙ .

Скорее всего консоль не хочет понимать, что в названаии папки присутствует пробел. Она ищет не папку «Рабочий стол», а папку с названием «Рабочий» и, соответственно ничего не находит. Выхода может быть два. Или переместить архив в другую папку, не содержащую в названии пробел, или в Dolfin воспользоваться контекстным меню.

Тут, вероятно решение (!)

Так-как я не в курсе того, как распаковываются архивы tar.gz, то, для экспериментальной распаковки архива «rarlinux-3.9.b3.tar.gz» я попробовал такой способ, который, естественно, мне не подошёл.

ИМХО, я лично, не выпендривался с консолью, и открыл тем, что дала система из графики (в 8.04 это ARK, в 9.04 даже не знаю, что там. но глянь графическое).

В 9.04 тоже самое. Я кансоль, кстати, юзаю только если с правами суперпользователя нужно распаковать.

tar -xvf rarlinux-3.9.b3.tar.gz

«rarlinux-3.9.b3.tar.gz» я попробовал такой способ, который, естественно, мне не подошёл.
