Do not play this game on a Wine prefix in 32 bit mode. You need 64 bit in order to play it correctly. In order to run GTAV you need to change the Windows version to be Windows 7 +, XP will not allow the game to launch.
In wine-staging Sun, 19 Apr 2015 version 1.7.41 x64 bit using Winetricks/PlayonLinux install the following components to have it exactly like my Installation:
So the Dotnet35 and 40 that is shipped with Playonlinux and winetricks probably won’t install on a winex64, I recommend installing the full package / stand-alone installer package that contains all required components to deploy different platforms from microsoft.com here [~231MB]
Also the VC redist / DX10 which is shipped with the game probably will try to install and fail. I think it may have something to do with Bug 17273. I downloaded the latest versions BEFORE I installed steam or GTAV, to reproduce my results I recommend downloading all three of these full packages from microsoft.com.
After setting those prerequisites, install steam.
Using steam, install the game as you normally would, but do not do the first run until later. This is sort of important as the VC redist / DX2010 which comes with the game may not install (they didn’t on first run for me) so i downloaded DX 10 June 2010 x64 version off of microsoft.com, and the VC redist
Latest version ONLY Very important, all other older versions will crash. Download the latest version 1.1.5.8+ Last updated on April 19th, 2015. This also is a fix for Max Payne 3, L.A. Noire, and Red Dead Redemption. DO NOT INSTALL THE SOCIAL CLUB WHICH COMES WITH THE GAME or you may need to start over.
Also something important to note. DO NOT INSTALL the social club which ships with winetricks/playonlinux, they will install C:\Program Files (x86)\Rockstar Games\Social Club , and the new social club which I tested installs in C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Social Club .
Also I would make sure if you do install social club in the wrong version by accident you just start over with a fresh installation steam/new wine, as the registry data does not clean up when you try to un-install social club. See:

I also added commands in running «-noprecache -norestrictions -nomemrestrict»
If you follow the correct order of installation, and you are using the latest version of social club with patched DX10 files, you should have no problem getting to the splash screen.
Rockstar games launcher linux
I purchased and downloaded GTA IV via Steam on my Ubuntu laptop. But when I try to launch the game it says unable to locate Rockstar Games launcher. Are there any solutions to this?

I did install RGL via Lutris. But how do I make the installer (which is apparently what is starting up when I start the game) know where RGL is installed?

Go to the game in the Steam library, hit the «Manage» icon (the gear next to the circled «i» and the star) and click «Properties.» Click the «Set Launch Options» button, and put this text in the box:
This has solved most of my troubles with launching Windows Steam games under Ubuntu.

So, yea. just been going through stuff getting games to run. red dead online was the only thing i couldnt get working, but in the end, was fairly simple.
may or may not be relevant or useful, but whatever, just hyped that i got it to run.

1.You cannot use the latest Rockstar installer. Find rockstar-launcher-1-0-36-344.exe. I uploaded it here https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KIRrmY9aZw0cyeA9Ex20Sbs0vy2EmY5H/view
2.make the prefix wherever you will store the game install! this will prevent storage space errors in the installer. also, if you want it to scan your game and not download again, it has to be inside the prefix!
3.Tell the installer to use the file you downloaded by clicking the button on the right. when the installer is done, UNCHECK the thing to make it launch when done. just exit when it finishes. and launch after
4. let rockstar update itself and install whatever it wants.
-you cannot use GloriousEggroll builds, as they will fail to see the output device.
-you dont have to use an fshack build, just disable esync and fsync,. fshack recommended
Very likely !!if you get a grey screen where cant click anything in the launcher, its a pop-up that is messed up. you might have to relaunch 2x to get all the popups. the ones i got a lot were : «extra files found in game folder — click ok», «enable cloud saves», and «your red dead needs an update» (the cloud saves popup can be avoided by manually enabling cloud saves before it appears).
*Now, switch to vanilla/tgk wine7.0rc4 or rc6, launch game again -if the startup logo gets stuck «loading» (the little star animation, just close, and try again. once in the launcher, click ok on the pop-ups, play game (it wont work, will get to the screen where you get to choose the world will not connect, dont waste your time). however, we might be able to clear a popup by doing this), close game, and switch back to vanilla wine 6.21-6. the messages will not appear again once you get that particular pop-up cleared. thats it, you can play online now. tl;dr : WINE7 (non-GE) to clear popups -maybe 2 or 3 logins depending on your luck-, WINE6.21-6 (non-GE) to actually play
cant play using wine7 bc it kicks you from social club and never loads ingame bc it cant connect. cant use any GE build that i tried due to output issue with social club overlay.
for storage issues when installing or copying existing install — use a folder inside the prefix. this is why i said to make the prefix wherever you will have the game installation. otherwise, might show system drive space instead of install drive space.
