A powerful third party alternative firmware for Asus routers.

This is an official Merlin fork which is supported by ASUS and RMerlin: Aim of this project is to make Merlin running on additional routers.

My builds should support all features available in the original Merlin firmware, sometime I do unleash some extra features too for some specific models. The images are build in the cloud for transparency and the opensource code is publicly available in this github repository.

  Asuswrt-Merlin

  Asuswrt-Merlin is a third party firmware for select Asus wireless routers. Based on the Asuswrt firmware developed by Asus, it brings tweaks, new features and other improvements to the original firmware, while retaining its performance and ease of use.

  Note that only downloads are hosted on SF.net — the complete source code can be found on https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin (legacy 380.xx) and https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin.ng (382 and newer releases).

  I have always used Merlin on RT68U and now AX86U. I love the features it has ,shame no Pi.hole added. it would be a solid firmware especially that Wire-guard works wonderfully well. please add Pi.hole support. thanks.

  None of ASUS website Firmware worked because my last Firmware was too old and ASUS Firmware could not update it, and no matter what I did to update it worked. It left me confused why it wouldn’t. I came across sourceforge.net with a solution to fix my problem, so I took a chance and downloaded the latest Firmware (RT-AC68U_378.55_0) and install the Firmware, and low and behold everything works again, and now I feel like a have a new modem with a great interface and no more issues, I can even load the latest Firmware from the ASUS website. So much for thinking my ASUS AC68U was too old to be fixed. I am tickled pink now it’s all working.

  About

  Asuswrt is the name of the firmware developed by Asus for use on all their recent routers. It was originally based on Tomato, and got extensively modified by Asus over the years as they added their own features to it.

  Asuswrt-Merlin is an alternative, customized version of that firmware. Developed by Eric Sauvageau, its primary goals are to enhance the existing firmware without bringing any radical changes, and to fix some of the known issues and limitations, while maintaining the same level of performance as the original firmware. This means Asuswrt-Merlin retains full support for NAT acceleration (sometimes referred to as «hardware acceleration»), enhanced NTFS performance (through the proprietary drivers used by Asus from either Paragon or Tuxera), and the Asus exclusive features such as AiCloud or the Trend Micro-powered AiProtection. New feature addition is very low on the list of priorities for this project.

  There are also a number of illegal forks which run on non-Asus routers. Asuswrt cannot legally be run on these, as they are not licensed for use of the proprietary components like Trend Micro’s engine. These illegal forks are not supported, and should not be used. In addition they are generally in violation of GPL licensing terms, as their source code is not publicly available.

  AddOns

  Asuswrt-Merlin has a rich ecosystem that consists of third party developed addons, which can enhance the router with features like ad blocking or connection monitoring. You find more info in the AddOns support forum at SNBForums.

  . Обязательно. Прошивать роутер ТОЛЬКО при подключении по кабелю. ПО WIFI любой роутер прошивать категорически НЕ РЕКОМЕНДУЕТСЯ , если конечно Вы не хотите получить дорогой красивый кирпичик.

  В данном руководстве мы прошьем WIFI роутер Asus RT-N66U прошивкой от Мерлина. Данная прошивка показала себя стабильно в работе, добавлено некоторое удобство в работе веб интерфейса, SSH из коробки, а также простая установка дополнительных программ.

  Для того чтобы скачать для роутера Asus RT-N66U последнюю прошивку от Мерлина переходим на RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_374.42_0.zip её мы в инструкции и установим. Если сайт недоступен, то можно скачать эту прошивку с моего сайта по ссылке, но возможно будет уже не самая последняя.

  На веб странице Вы увидите список прошивок на наш роутер, кликаем на RT-N66U_3.0.0.4_374.42_0.zip

  

  Сохраняем скачиваемую прошивку на винчестер, прошивку необходимо обязательно разархивировать:

  

  В веб интерфейсе роутера в поле Дополнительные настройки кликаем на кнопку Администрирование:

  

  В открывшемся окне переходим на вкладку Обновление микропрограммы, кликаем в поле Файл новой микропрограммы на кнопку Обзор:

  

  Выбираем разархивированную прошивку и для начала установки новой прошивки кликаем кнопку Отправить:

  

  

  

  После завершения прошивки в веб интерфейсе мы можем увидеть номер прошивки:

  

  Прошивка от Мерлина для WIFI роутера ASUS RT-N66U установлена, позже ждите другие инструкции по настройке данного роутера.
