Connect your hearing aid via Bluetooth

Most hearing aids are designed to connect via Bluetooth to a smartphone. This way you can receive the audio coming from the mobile phone directly into the hearing aid in Wi-Fi, to listen to music or to converse on the phone more easily. The smartphone must be compatible with the hearing aid and must be equipped with Bluetooth technology.

Things to know about Bluetooth function

  • 2.4GHz transmission frequency
  • WLAN, cordless phones and microwaves are potential sources of interference for Bluetooth.
  • If two Bluetooth devices are paired, this connection remains in the «memory» even if these devices move out of reception range. This happens until the connection is cleared (by resetting the device). In some cases, several connections like these may exist at the same time.
  • The range varies according to the performance of the transmitter and receiver unit. Bluetooth is divided into three different classes, for which different ranges can be obtained. Flow rate is usually measured in open air, where there are no sources of attenuation. The range is reduced by doors, walls and so on. In most applications (mobile phone, headphones, earphones), Bluetooth class 3 is used, as it requires the lowest power of around 1mW, which means a range of around 10m is possible outdoors. For devices with a power connection, obviously better classes can be used, as power is not very important.

Bluetooth hearing aids, like our Ampli-Connect line, can be connected wirelessly like other devices to all electronic devices equipped with Bluetooth, such as mobile phones, televisions, computers and any other audio playback devices. The sound reaches the ears directly through the hearing aids in a simple and direct way. You can receive phone calls, listen to TV audio or music from your computer.

Do I have a Bluetooth listening device?

You can ask the hearing care technician for information while purchasing the hearing aid on its Bluetooth compatibility. In general, the most recent devices are enabled with bluetooth technology through which you can connect to the different technological devices through settings or through the provider’s app.

Battery life with Bluetooth use

Bluetooth hearing aids use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology. Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is a low energy bluetooth that is perfect for ensuring undetected power consumption with delay. The battery power of the hearing aid can drain more quickly when Bluetooth is enabled, but there are workarounds. The low energy hearing aids on the market offer a high level of performance and connectivity and can be easily recharged.
