General Information
This Oculus Rift support implementation is designed for first person game play. It is possible to switch to 3rd-person view, but the best (and motion sickness free) experience is in first person mode.
Performance Tips
Some options can be tweaked to boost the rendering performance to make sure the game runs stable framerates in VR mode.

Extract all the files from the Windows or Linux zip file into the following directory of your «Jedi Knight III: Jedi Academy» installation and start the «jasphmd» executable:

The version was tested on Ubuntu 14.04 and Windows 7.
Windows:
The Oculus Runtime 0.8 is needed to run the game in VR mode.
Ubuntu:
The Oculus Runtime 0.5 is needed to run the game in VR mode.
The universe repository has to be activated (Software & Updates)

For the DK2 support I had to use the OculusSDK. The OpenHMD library just doesn’t support all the features. It is still possible to build the game with OpenHMD support. Just follow the instructions in the Build.md file.
The OculusSDK library is loaded during runtime and the game also works fine without the library.This version can also be played without any Head Mounted Device. All HMD tweaks will be disabled and the game should behave like the original version.

Jedi Knight III: Jedi Academy Linux
Jedi Knight III: Jedi Academy (Single Player Linux Port).
The current state is playable without any major problems.
I didn’t play the whole game yet, but I tested at least more than half of the levels.Binary

Widescreen Feature:
This is the only thing I changed from the original code to improve the gaming experience.
- added some tweaks for widescreen support (show more content left and right instead of cutting content from top and bottom)
- if you want to play in your native monitor resolution you have to choose the following option «2048×1536». I change this to the current resolution of the main monitor during OpenGL start up.

I want to share my new project: Oculus Rift DK1 support for Jedi Academy (for Windows and Linux)
This project was on my mind since the source code was released last year. Finally I had some time this summer to get started.
This Oculus Rift support implementation is designed for first person game play. It is possible to switch to 3rd-person view, but the best (and motion sickness free) experience is in first person mode.
I haven’t tested the whole game yet, but the first 7 levels are working very good.
Play the game
Copy all the files from the Windows or Linux platform folder into the root directory of your «Jedi Knight III: Jedi Academy» installation and start the «jasphmd» executable.
The version was tested on Ubuntu 14.04 and Windows 7.
Needed libraries on Ubuntu 14.04 32bit:

- Free look during in-game cut scenes
- Removed all forced camera rotations and a lot of camera movements

Before I started this project, I had a look at the rift support implementation from LeeN (mtbs3d forum). This helped me to get started. Thx LeeN.
Mike Frett’s Blog
First thing, go to https://github.com/xLAva/JediAcademyLinux and click «Zip» near the top left. Open the Zip File and extract it.
Open the folder, then open the folder inside named «code». In that folder is yet another folder named «Release». Copy this folder (Release) to a more permanent location on your Drive and rename it to something like «JediAcademyLinux». I keep a folder called «bin» in my Home folder to store Downloaded Games and Apps.
For this next part you need your Jedi Academy CDs. Put the first CD in the drive and browse to «GameData/GameData/base». Copy the folder «base» with the file «assets0.pk3» into your JediAcademyLinux folder. Put the second CD in and go to «GameData/GameData/base» again and extract the files «assets1.pk3» and «assets2.pk3» into your base folder with the other file from CD1.
Now let us install a few files. If you have the 32bit version of Xubuntu, open a terminal and type the following «sudo apt-get install libopenal1 zlib1g-dev». If you have the 64bit version type «sudo apt-get install ia32-libs libxxf86dga1:i386 zlib1g-dev:i386». You can install the same files via the GUI Application Synaptic if you like.
The guy who ported it says you should install the patch «JKAcademy1_01.exe» but I didn’t know how without installing it in Wine and then patching the files and copying the patched files. The Game seems to be running just fine without it, so that’s up to you.
It’s time now to play Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Open the Game folder and make sure «jasp» is marked as an executable. You can do this in Xubuntu by right clicking the file and selecting properties, clicking the Permissions Tab and making sure «Allow this file to run as a program» is checked.
Now just run the file «jasp» and you’ll be playing. In the settings menu of the Game you can select «2048×1536» as your resolution, to run it in your Monitors native Widescreen mode. Have fun!
