@duschinsky: This is now the 6th package I’ve seen a report for with a GitHub source. Something is going on. anyway, it’s fixed now.

I’m getting the following error «ERROR: One or more files did not pass the validity check!» There seems to be an issue with the SHA256sum in the PKGBUILD.

@rado84: Dirt fix is to create file /home/user/.pam_environment and add a line like: GTK_THEME=Your-Theme-name (name of the theme in /usr/share/theme). In my case I use: «GTK_THEME=Mojave-Dark-solid-alt». It works fine in Cinnamon and XFCE! This will fix many other new Gnome 42+ apps, like recorder and baobab.

Very good program, shows everything I need. I only wish it could use the custom titlebars I have for Cinnamon, instead of the ugly gnome titlebar.

FWIW I edited the pkgbuild to 12.1 and it installed and runs just fine.

@yochananmarqos, thanks for reverting! However I tried to use the pkgbuild 1.12.0 and just changed to 1.12.1, updpkgsums then makepkg -crs and it works perfectly! See https://imgur.com/a/b2zACoe I use cinnamon DE.

Graphically monitoring the system resources may not be the best experience on Linux. The system monitoring tool that comes baked in with your desktop environment might limit the details.
For instance, GNOME’s system monitor does not display the CPU frequency and temperatures.
In addition, the default system monitor applications available for Linux usually aim for simplicity instead of providing detailed insights.

System Monitoring Center is a GTK3 and Python 3 based sleek-looking app that gives you all the resource usage data that you would want.
In my case, I wanted to keep an eye on the CPU frequency when using a system monitoring tool, but GNOME’s system monitoring tool didn’t help. So, this came in pretty handy.
The application provides a good user experience and offers plenty of insights and features. Let me highlight the key features that you can expect with it.
The application is still in the beta phase when writing this. So, you can expect to encounter bugs. However, I did not notice any issues in my brief testing.
Features of System Monitoring Center
To start with, it lets you view separate stats for your CPU, RAM, Disk, Network, GPU, and sensors.
You can expect the following details with the tool:
- Displays CPU status including the frequency
- Ability to display average usage or usage per core
- Select the precision points for CPU frequency and other stats
- Ability to change the graph color
- Filter system processes by user and easily manage them
- Toggle a floating summary widget to quickly get insights
- Shows disk usage info and connected drives
- Detailed system info in the same app
- Control startup services and programs
- Ability to control the state update interval
- Low system resource usage for the app itself
- Adapts to system theme
While it offers a ton of options and customizations per tab (or component), I wish that it would include the RAM frequency, among other things, in a future update.
However, the rest of the data seem incredibly helpful, considering it could replace the use of a disk usage analyzer and a terminal tool like neofetch at the same time.
Do note that you may not get the data for fans if you have multiple case fans, a separate exhaust fan, or an AIO. The temperatures can be a hit or miss, but the CPU temperature should be visible.
Install System Monitoring Center in Linux
You can easily install it on any Ubuntu-based distros using the deb package available.
Unfortunately, there are no available packages except a ZIP file that you will have to manually build and compile to get it installed. You should find a script to build the RPM package within the ZIP file.

System Monitoring Center — the name is pretty self-explanatory. It’s an open-source, feature-packed, and all-in-one application for monitoring all the essential system resources for Linux.
Reasons to use SMC over the default Linux system monitors
Most Linux distributions, especially the popular ones, have pretty decent default system monitoring tools.
Even though they do a good job at allowing you to graphically monitor how your system is using hardware resources, they’re geared towards the average user, meaning they lack extensive features and capabilities.
One example of this would be the CPU frequency, which is not displayed by most default system monitoring tools.
Another reason why you should give this app a chance is how it looks. Granted, this is not of paramount importance, usually, to Linux users, but SMC is built using GTK3 and Python 3.
This means that it’s remarkably lightweight, fast, and more importantly, it looks really stylish (capable of adapting to your system’s theme with ease).
Last but not least, it’s surprisingly customizable, as it offers tons of options and configuration abilities per tab.

The whole point of using System Monitoring Center over the default ones baked into most Linux distributions is to have a better view of what’s going on with your system.
With its help, you can view separate stats for your computer’s RAM, CPU, GPU, Disk, and Network usage, as well as useful details about other types of sensors.
You are provided with various interesting options such as the ability to display the average usage or the usage per core, select the precision point of CPU frequencies (and other useful stats), filter system processes by user, and even manage them, control startup services and apps.

Verdict

Speaking of potential, it’s quite clear that SMC is worth having around if you’re a performance-oriented Linux user. If not for looks and customization options, then at least for the fact that it somewhat eliminates the need for other Terminal/command-line-based tools.
