Network/Wi-Fi issue with Thunderbolt Display

I have since experienced some network disruption, instability, and slow-down, but I thought it was my internet provider fault, then I got the idea to compare with my Macbook Pro 16 with the same condition (same network, same ultrafine 5K display, same thunderbolt cable, same everything OK),

On the mac mini I got 70~160 MBit/s, while on the Macbook Pro 16 I got 320~350 MBit/s !

So I tried to disconnect the thunderbolt display off the Mac Mini, launching the speedtest just by pressing the Enter key on the keyboard. waiting few seconds for the test to finish then reconnecting the display to see the result.

It goes up to ~300 MBit/s ! Still a bit under the Macbook Pro 16,

So I sent screens to apple support online chat, and got an apple store appointment tomorrow,

I have noticed that a lot of people got the same network issues with M1 devices (just google it you will see),

I am very angry against Apple, also they said they will not immediately get back the defect product because I am over the 14 days delay by few. So will see tomorrow with a technician,

A computer with such network hardware issue, as called a hidden defect, is no use to me at all, I hope a refund,

I join here two screens (100Mbit/s is with thunderbolt display plugged and 300MBit/s is without),

I am very angry against Apple,

Poorly shielded cables and devices are know to cause Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues.

This is not a new problem with the latest Mac Mini. It has also been a problem with the 2012 and later Mac Mini’s using poorly shielded high speed USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt cables and devices. You also need to keep in mind, that the Wireless card is in the back and the Antenna is on the bottom cover.

  1. Try rearranging your setup so that all the cables and devices are not in between the Mac Mini and your Wi-Fi Router.
  2. Try getting and using a better shielded Thunderbolt cable from the Mac Mini to the Display.
  3. Try moving the Mac Mini and Router closer together or using an Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi if possible.
  4. Try standing the Mac Mini on it’s side with the bottom facing in the direction of your Router.

Macbook pro wifi signal receiving very weak I picked up my Macbook Pro from the Apple store yesterday for a display replacement and as I was trying to use my laptop for homework I realized that there were almost no nearby wifi networks. Only my home wifi was available and it was one bar. I tried connecting to it but it keeps having a connection issue. The only way I can use the wifi is if my Macbook is literally 1 foot away from the router and it connects (still extremely slow). I know that the router is not the problem, the wifi works fine on my phone and my Macbook Air. My laptop is covered under warranty since it just got repaired, but it’s disappointing that this would be the third time in 1 year i had to get service. Are there any correlations between the display case replacement and the wifi? How can i fix this? (fyi i already tried safe booting, and factory resseting the entire laptop)

What is wrong with the Wifi on M1 Mac’s? I am pulling my hair out with this issue. My network connection keeps dropping, and every other device sitting next to it include my iPhone 12 Pro, iPad Pro 11, MacBook Pro 2019, and iMac 2013 aren’t having any of the same network drop issues. Which means I have ruled out the area being a bad connection area. This is also my second iMac M1, as Apple said I probably got a bad original one. This one is having the same exact issues of dropped Wifi connection as my first one. To boot I am seeing a ton of posts across the internet reporting the same exact issue with other M1 chipsets on the MacBook Air and Mac mini. Anybody have a solution?

M1 MacBook internet issue I recently got a MacBook Air with the M1 chip and during zoom calls or uploading/downloading files it will disconnect from the WiFi and not reconnect until I turn off WiFi and wait to reconnect. My old MacBook i5 doesn’t have this issue. And all apples tech support asked me to do is to call if it happens again and it’s done it SEVERAL times and I keep getting the same “help” which is nothing! This is extremely frustrating as most of us are working from home and getting disconnected during work is becoming a loss of income. Apple please fix this issue or I’m sure many of us will be switching to windows.

Wifi not working in windows if thunderbolt display is connected

I had to install windows 7 on my macbook air (. ) and I’m having trouble getting it to work with the thunderbolt display. As soon as the display is connected, the wifi doesn’t work anymore. Device manager shows the broadcom wifi device with a warning sign. It works nicely when I reboot without the display plugged in. Of course I’ve installed the newest Bootcamp drivers! Is this a known problem? Any suggestions? (If it helps, I’m also having trouble getting my wireless trackpad and wireless keyboard to work at all with windows 7, might be related..) (un)fortunately I don’t know jack about windows anymore because I didn’t use it seriously for at least 10 years.

I have this exact same problem but in MacOS X Mountain Lion. The minute I unplug the thunderbolt/minidisplayport, the wifi starts working again.

I found a weird solution on the internet from another Macbook Air owner witht eh same problem as us: access your router and change the channel to 1, or 2, or any other number that works. For some reason, plugging in the cable disrupts the wifi signal entering the Macbook.

This seems to be a common problem and this seems to be the only solution that works, as many users have tried with different cables and different OS. Hopefully Apple will provide a firmware update to fix this for good as not always can we access the router (like at my work). However, as of today (I updated my OS to 10.8.4), this problem has not been fixed properly.

How to Set up Thunderbolt Display on Windows [Driver Guide]

How to connect a display through thunderbolt on windows 10

To fix Windows PC system issues, you will need a dedicated tool Fortect is a tool that does not simply cleans up your PC, but has a repository with several millions of Windows System files stored in their initial version. When your PC encounters a problem, Fortect will fix it for you, by replacing bad files with fresh versions. To fix your current PC issue, here are the steps you need to take:

Nowadays we have faster and faster connections between all our devices, and many of them are wireless. That wasn’t always the case.

In the past years, Thunderbolt was the standard for fastest data transfer and today we’ll find out how you can connect your display through it.

What is Thunderbolt?

Thunderbolt is an input/output technology introduced five years ago by Apple, famous for supporting high-resolution displays and high-performance data devices with a single port.

Its main characteristics are flexibility, speed and simplicity. This technology gives you two channels on the same connector and each channel has a data transfer speed of 10 Gb/s in both directions.

Thunderbolt is one method of connecting a display to a computer, but not a very popular one. The most appreciated are HDMI, DVI, VGA and DisplayPort.

Today, most of the VGA and DVI ports were replaced with DisplayPort. HDMI is used for flat screen TVs and smart TVs because you can connect that port to different extensions like Blu-Ray players, game consoles, computers and much more.

The original project was patented by Intel under the name of Light Peak. The first version of this technology appeared in 2010 but was more like a beta.

The following year, Intel released the product co-developed version with Apple. PC manufacturers rejected the Light Peak version because its fiber optics technology was too expensive and the Thunderbolt version seemed like a more profitable option.

Some PC issues are hard to tackle, especially when it comes to missing or corrupted system files and repositories of your Windows.
Be sure to use a dedicated tool, such as Fortect, which will scan and replace your broken files with their fresh versions from its repository.

One problem with Thunderbolt monitors is that they have a specific connector for Apple devices. A Thunderbolt screen should work on any PC that has a Thunderbolt port, but many of you wouldn’t buy one without a guarantee it would work.

And while Thunderbolt 3 has adopted a new USB Type-C port, this port is not compatible with any kind of PC.

Can I use an Apple Thunderbolt screen with a Windows 10 PC?

As we said, you need a system with a Thunderbolt port and, if you are lucky, you will be able to use this type of monitor on a PC. Wikipedia has a list with almost all the devices compatible with Thunderbolt and on the Thunderbolt official website you can find also a database with all these devices.

How to setup Apple Thunderbolt on Windows 10 PC?

After you made sure that the system and your drivers are up to date and your computer is compatible with Thunderbolt display, after connecting, you should receive a notification called New Thunderbolt devices have been attached.

  1. In the notification window, you have two buttons: OK and Cancel. To start the set-up click on the OK button and it will run the configuration as an administrator.
  2. After this, you may receive a Windows User Account Control (UAC) pop-up which is asking if you want to allow this app to make changes to your PC. Click on Yes button.
  3. It will appear a window where you will approve the Thunderbolt device that was attached. For every device, there is a table. From that table, change the status from Do Not Connect to Always Connect and then click OK.
  4. To view and manage the approved settings, click on the carret (up arrow icon) from the start menu bar. Right click on the Thunderbolt icon and click on the Manage Approved Devices.
  5. Again, you may receive a Windows User Account Control (UAC) pop-up which is asking if you want to allow this app to make changes to your PC. Click on Yes button.
  6. After clicking Yes, it will open a window with all the Thunderbolt devices connected to your PC. Make sure that the devices have a check at Attached category.

How to establish connection via an adapter

To solve this problem, computer manufacturers have introduced different adapters on the market for these types of monitors. We recommend you the DisplayPort adapters.

Of course, there are adapters for any kind of video format, but there is a very small price difference between an HDMI or VGA adapter and a DisplayPort adapter.
