how do i unzip a .exe file?

I have a windows .exe file which i believe is created by zip. Would like to get the directories & files in the .exe file. Anyone got any ideas? TIA

Not sure about Linux native, but I use WinRAR to extract these. it usually just starts the process (extracts it from the self-extracting archive). After that I use unshield and cabextract to finish ’em off from the terminal. I haven’t tried unrar from the terminal for this, but I’ll get back to you and let you know if works or not.

What makes you think the .exe file is a compressed file? From it’s extension it is an executable file for Windows, and not compressed. Compressed files have other extensions, such as .zip or .gz or so. See man gzip in a terminal for more information on zipped files and how to unzip them.

No, there are some extractable exes , which you can open with winzip/winrar in Windows or file-roller in ubuntu. I beliebe you need to install cabextract to be able to open it with file-roller, if it is extractable, as Legace asked.

Ппц, программы не так ставятся в linux, как в windows.
В Ubuntu идем Система->Администрирование->Менеджер пакетов Synaptic,
или Приложения->Установка/удаление программ.

Программы разложены на части для модулярности, так не надо будет качать все сразу и можно поддерживать систему на самом актуальном состоянии, чего НЕЛЬЗЯ достигнуть в windows.
Делаете поиск по абстрактному понятию или выбираете категорию. Можно и рисунок посмотреть перед установкой.

Exe это «запускаемый» файл только windows, в linux их много типов, но основной ELF. Причем не обязательно, чтобы файл оканчивался так.
Чтобы сделать что-то запускаемым, щелкайте правой кнопкой на файле->свойства->разрешить запуск.

Хотя не понятно зачем вам оно, программы на linux в ручную обычно НЕ ставятся, если вы не программист.

А если вам надо игру какую из Windows запустить, или чтонибудь подобное, что изначально только для windows существует, то устанавливайте PlayonLinux и запускайте.
Но учтите вирусы из windows никто не отменял. Систему не затронут, а ваши данные могут.

[ссылка заблокирована по решению администрации проекта] посмотри здесь на форуме. Совет простой — не ставь Linux как основную Операционную систему если ты не информатизатор. Установи лицензионный Windows а после запускай любой Linux. Вроде так в форуме указано было.

у меня распаковывается стандартным File-roller’ом (Он же — Менеджер архивов) . правой кнопкой на экзешнике — «Открыть с помощью» — и выбери его.
