How to install steam on KALI linux amd64:
first of all install nvidia driver on kali:
http://docs.kali.org/general-use/install-nvidia-drivers-on-kali-linux
and do exactly as it is explained on that page.
Then download debian-steam package from:
http://www.mediafire.com/?h1cc1heaxtc7j
fire up the terminal type one line at a time:
dpkg -i steam-debian_1.0.0.42-1_all.deb
dpkg —add-architecture i386
apt-get update
apt-get install ia32-libs
apt-get upgrade -y
apt-get install libgl1-fglrx-glx:i386
after that run steam:
steam-debian
and proceed to the steam installation process, at the agreement window press enter as much as the percentage goes to 100% then type y and again enter.
After all this a icon launcher will be on the desktop just fire it up it will launch the steam application.

Why use Kali as a main distro though? In that case you can just install the Kali tools on your main distro, which would achieve better compatibility with the rest of the Linux world.

On Arch there’s even a Blackarch repository which is the tools divided into categories (social engineering, reversing, forensics, etc).

Kali linux is a distro made for pentesting, if all you want to do with it is using it as your daily driver for the epic neofetch and feeling like some soviet hacker because it’s bloated with hacking stuff. just Don’t

Can you tell me how to to install with .deb package. I’m fresher at Linux because i jumped from windows just few days ago that’s why i say to to you please share installation procedure with me.

Here’s how you install Steam on Debian. As said: Don’t use Kali for gaming. Or for anything, as a beginner.

Are you the based kid that thinks will be a hacker because uses kali linux but can’t even figure out how to install steam? If not pick arch based distros like endeavorOs and take your time

Don’t use Kali if you don’t even know how to do that yourself, nor how to find resources online on how to do that.

Dear god, just use Manjaro, Pop!_OS, EndeavourOS, Ubuntu (non LTS if possible) or even stock Debian 11 bullseye is better as a daily driver for your average John Doe.

If you want to look like you’re using Kali on stock Debian.
Open a terminal and type in

Kali is a specialized tool for computer security related investigations, not for gaming or normal desktop use. Asking how to install Steam on Kali is like asking how to best use an armored personnel carrier for your shopping trips.

If you are really a fresh Linux user, please select something else.

Please don’t use Kali Linux as your daily drive. Use something like Linux Mint or Pop_OS! which are much better for daily use and for beginners.

I know all these people are telling you not to but I know that won’t stop you. Kali Linux is Ubuntu based which is Debian based so you could just install it like anything else that is debian based. I also don’t think they have the graphics drivers installed by default so you would install mesa for AMD and the proprietary Nvidia Driver (someone correct me if there is alternatives) for Nvidia. Also, if you are interested in pen testing, I would recommend the Youtube channels Seytonic, Null Byte, and Computerphile. Also, please test on things you have permission to test on. Don’t pen test on anything that you don’t or you could end up in a lot of legal trouble. After you learn, maybe you could use Blackarch (definently not a beginner distro.)

Edit: You could even just install Kali Linux in a virtual Machine. I forgot to mention this. Virtual Box is a good one for beginners. Now, Try Linux Mint, Pop_OS, Ubuntu (look into some of the different forks offered on the website), Gentoo, Debian, Elementary OS if you like the Mac look, etc. as your primary driver as a beginner.

Давайте переходить к делу! Раньше установка Steam Linux производилась через Wine – теперь необходимость отпала, можно загрузить официальное приложение от разработчика. Valve всерьез задумалась о кроссплатформенности, поэтому разработала специальное программное обеспечение для нашей операционной системы.

Первый шаг – проверка подключения репозитория multiverse. Если вы уверены, что все в порядке, пропускайте эту часть инструкции и двигайтесь дальше. Проверить будет не лишним – репозиторий не подключен по умолчанию. Поэтому начинаем установку Steam на Kali Linux (или другую версию) так:

Зажмите клавиши Ctrl+Atl+T ;
Или откройте главное меню и перейдите к разделу «Приложения» , далее – «Стандартные» ;
Откройте терминал и введите команды:

sudo add-apt-repository multiverse
sudo apt update

На экране появится уведомление «Репозиторий активен» .

Есть второй вариант действий:

Перейдите на вкладку «Программное обеспечение Ubuntu» ;
Поставьте птичку в строке «Программы ограниченные патентами или законами (multiverse)» .

Первая часть инструкции, как установить Steam на Linux, завершена – мы подключили нужный репозиторий, откуда будет загружаться игровой клиент. Переходим к самому интересному!

Загружаем программу

Мысленно благодарим Valve за возможность официальной загрузки софта и продолжаем. Чтобы установить Стим на Линукс, придется воспользоваться терминалом. Открываем его любым удобным способом:

Зажмите одновременно клавиши Ctrl+Atl+T ;
Откройте главное меню и перейдите к утилите «Приложения» , откройте раздел «Стандартные» и ищите иконку терминала.

Теперь переходим непосредственно к вопросу, как установить Стим на Линукс. Воспользуемся официальным сайтом разработчика:

wget -O ~/steam.deb http://media.steampowered.com/client/installer/steam.deb

– sudo dpkg —add-architecture i386

Переходим к завершающему этапу. Вы смогли загрузить оболочку приложения, но пока оно не наполнено содержимым. Открываем главное меню и ищем раздел «Игры», здесь лежит недавно загруженное программное обеспечение.

Кликаем по иконке программы;
Автоматически запустится установщик – на экране появится соответствующее уведомление;
Все недостающие пакеты будут загружены через несколько минут. Можете приступать к работе!

После того, как вы смогли установить Стим на Убунту, зарегистрируйте аккаунт.

Если ранее вы создавали учетную запись, можете авторизоваться и переходить к использованию;
Если профиль не создавали – жмите на кнопку регистрации, указывайте адрес электронной почты и придумывайте пароль.

Напомним: когда будете искать игры во встроенном магазине, проверяйте наличие значка поддерживаемой операционной системы.

Kali Linux 2.0 Installing Steam [TUTORIAL]

I saw a tutorial on this forum that wasn’t very helpful as it was outdated and people still needed help. This is how you install Steam while running Kali 64-bit.

First thing you’ll need to do is go grab the latest Steam.

You can find Steam on valve’s official website:
http://store.steampowered.com/about/

Installation Instructions

You’ll download a steam .deb file. Replace «replace.deb» with your steam .deb filename.

sudo dpkg -i replace.deb sudo apt install -f

Now that steam is installed, if you want to run Steam as the root user you’ll need to locate /usr/bin/ and find a file called «steam».

Open this, and replace the following lines of code:

# Don’t allow running as root if [ "$(id -u)" == "0" ]; then show_message –error $”Cannot run as root user” exit 1 fi

# Don’t allow running as root if [ "$(id -u)" == "1" ]; then show_message –error $”Cannot run as root user” exit 1 fi

Essentially replaced 0 with 1 in this file. This will disable that annoying root message.
If you’re running a 64bit version of Kali and you’re receiving a libGL.so error upon Steam’s startup the following will fix that.

dpkg --add-architecture i386 sudo apt update sudo apt install libc6:i386 libqt4-dbus:i386 libqt4-network:i386 libqt4-xml:i386 libqtcore4:i386 libqtgui4:i386 libqtwebkit4:i386 libstdc++6:i386 libx11-6:i386 libxext6:i386 libxss1:i386 libxv1:i386 libssl1.0.0:i386 libpulse0:i386 libasound2-plugins:i386
