How to install Kali Linux on VMware Workstation on Windows

Hello friends, in this article I am going to discuss how to install Kali Linux on VMware Workstation on Windows. Therefore, I talked about how to install Kali Linux on VirtualBox on Windows Installing or testing Kali Linux on VirtualBox is not much harder than installing that on PC. In here I will show you step by step to install Kali Linux under Virtual Machine. We are selecting Virtual Machine to not damage our physical hard drive on any other part of the system, or you will not lose your data while installing an operating system on Virtual machine. Kali Linux has High offensive security that derived by Debian, and Kali Linux has over 600 Pre-installed penetration testing programs. So however follow my steps which today I am going to show the installation of Kali Linux on VMware Workstation.

To install Kali Linux on VMware, you need these Requirements

• Kali Linux ISO file Latest Version
• VMware Workstation Pro 15 or latest version
• For installation of Kali Linux, you need Maximum of 2 GB hard drive
• At least 2 or 4 GB RAM for better performance of the installation
• Support AMD64
• A bootable USB drive
• A bootable CD/DVD

Install VMware Workstation Pro 15

• Therefore, you can download the latest version of VMware Workstation from the given link on the requirements
• While the download is complete run the setup.
• On the welcome screen click Next
• Mark or accept the terms and license agreement and click Next.
• Custom Setup screen also goes to default and click Next.
• User Experience screen doesn’t do anything and click Next.
• Shortcuts screen leaves as default and clicks Next.
• Now ready to install VMware Workstation Pro and click on Install.

Create a new Virtual Machine

When the download of Kali Linux and Installation of VMware is done, Therefore, you need to create a new Virtual machine for Kali Linux to install that.

Step #1. Now Launch the VMware workstation Pro and on the window, you will see create a new virtual machine. and select Custom (Advanced) this type of installation is compatibility of an older product of VMware and click the “Next” button.

Step #2. In this step, you are required to choose your hardware features are needed for this virtual machine. Therefore, I recommend you to go default don’t do anything and click the “Next” button.

Step #3. In this step, select the third option I will install the operating system later and click the “Next” button.

Step #4. In this step, select Linux and select the Other Linux 4.x or later kernel 64-Bit and click the “Next” button.

Step #5. In this step, give a name to the Virtual machine and select the location and click the “Next” button.

Step #6. In this step, you need the Configuration of Processor select the number of processors about 2 and Number of cores per processor also 2 and click the “Next” button.

Step #7. In this step, select the amount of RAM for Kali Linux installation to select the RAM 4069 and click the “Next” button.

Step #9. Select the Network type the second option Use network address translation (NAT). It will give the guest operating system access to the host computer’s dial-up or external Ethernet network connection using the host’s IP address.

Step #10. In this step. Therefore, select the LSI Logic (Recommended) and click the “Next” button.

Step #11. In this step, select SCSI (Recommended) and click the “Next” button.

Step #12. In this step, select the Disk to mark the first option (Create a new virtual disk) A virtual disk is composed of one or more files on the host file system, which will appear as a single hard disk to the guest operating system. virtual disks can easily be copied or moved on the same host or between hosts. and click the “Next” button.

Step #13. In this step, Specify Disk Capacity and select Maximum Disk Size (GB) about 20 GB, and Select the Store virtual disk as a single file and click the “Next” button.

Step #14. In this step, Specify Disk File and click the “Next” button.

Step #15. In this step, you need to configure some settings for Kali Linux installation in Vmware Workstation. Therefore, click on the Customize Hardware. After that, you will see the settings window.

Step #16. In the Processors Tab, select or mark Virtualize Intel VT-x/EPT or AMD-V/RVI. Because this will effect while installation or it will detect the AMD graphics which is on your computer.

Step #17. In this step, browse for ISO file of Kali Linux select New CD/DVD (IDE) from Tab. And select Use ISO image file and click the Browse, furthermore, you will face another window and select the Kali Linux ISO file and click Open.

Step #18. Now you are done with creating a virtual machine and you ready to create a virtual machine. Therefore, click Finish

Start a clean installation of Kali Linux

Here, I am going to show you the clean installation of Kali Linux. Therefore, I will select the “Graphical install” of Kali Linux here by selecting Graphical Install you will have an outstanding graphic while you are using Kali Linux. If you want to continue with other installation of Kali Linux you can, but I recommend you to choose graphical Install.

Step #1. Select a language for installation of Kali Linux. I am selecting the default language and click Continue.

Step #2. In this step, select your location which country you are belonging select your country and click Continue.

Step #3. In this step, Configure your keyboard and click Continue.

Step #4. In this step give a Hostname for this system, I will recommend to go default and click Continue.

Step #5. In this step, select a Domain name if you don’t have any domain you leave as default and click Continue.

Step #6. Choose a password for a user name. Therefore, I suggest you select the strong password for username and click Continue.

Step #7. In this step, choose your time zone if you want to bring changes on time zone you can choose other time zones also and click Continue.

Step #8. In this step, select the installer can guide you through partitioning a disk and select Guided-use entire disk and click Continue.

Step #9. In this step, select dist to partition that all data on the disk you will be erased, but before you have confirmed that you want to make the changes. And select SCS13 (0,0,0) (sda) – 21.5 GB VMware, VMware Virtual S and click Continue.

Step #10. In this step, select partitioning scheme I recommend you to select All files in one partition (Recommended for new users) and click Continue.

Step #11. Now select Finish Partitioning and write changes to disk and click Continue.

Step #12. If you continue, the changes listed below will be written to the disks. otherwise, you will be able to make further changes manually. Select YES and click Continue.

Step #13. In this step, Use a network mirror? select YES and click Continue.

Step #14. In here, if you need to use an HTTP proxy to access the outside world, enter the proxy information here. Otherwise, leave this blank. I suggest you leave blank and click Continue. After that, you will have installation be patient for installation because the installation will take at least more than 20 minutes.

Step #15. In this step, Install the GRUB boot loader on a hard disk. Therefore, installing boot loader make a master to boot record of your first hard drive. And select YES then click Continue.

Step 16. In here, you need a Device for boot loader installation. I recommend you to select the second option DEV/SDA and click Continue.

Step #17. Now installation is complete, so it is time to boot into your new system. Therefore, click on Continue to Boot the installation.

Step #18. This all you have done with installation. After that, you booted the installation the screen will come to enter your Username and Password or Username. After that, you will see the beautiful screen of Kali Linux.
