Thanks for this thousands and thousands of answers in this community. I am new into this, and I am glad to be part of it.

Recently I have updated my Mac Book pro 15 to Mojave, and I am using VMWare Fusion Pro 10.1.0 with Windows 7 guest.

I had no problems with this before, but after this update I am having some, at least, curious network issues.

I have the VMWare setup as a network bridge (Autodetect), and there is no problem if I am using a wired connection with the host, but I have no connection if the host is using Wi-Fi to access to the network. I have checked the Privacy/Security settings in the Mac, and also the firewall settings. No way.

If the setting is NAT ot Autodetect with wired connection I have no issues.

The guest is configured as DHCP. When I have the issue, the guest can’t access to the DHCP server, the ping is not responding as well, event if I am do it with the host address.

VM MAC address will be changed to macOS MAC address when sending/receiving packets to/from router via Wi-Fi, and if certain security check in enabled on Server/Router , they will ‘think’ the request(say, DHCP request) is invalid.

Does your Bridged VM has DHCP problem when using wired network, say, Ethernet adapter?

There is no security Mac filter in the router. The bridge VM is working fine with DHCP and wired network.

The problem comes when I update the Mojave OS. before this update all this settings were so smooth.

You’re having the same issue as me, it’s a bug, see this post: VMware Fusion — incorrect MAC address bridge mode — dhcp broken

PACKETS DON’T LIE — This is NOT a security issue, VMware had this working up until Fusion 10. This also works in Parallels. The issue is in Fusion 10&11, they are using the incorrect MAC address in the DHCP DISCOVERY packet.

I recently run into a similar issue, i couldn’t access my local network from a Windows 7 Pro VM with bridged network while on wifi, but everything’s running fine with the ethernet cable.

After a lot of troubleshooting i finally discovered a solution, in short i’ll try to explain my tests and the workaround which solved the problem.

During my extensive tests, i installed many fresh VM and the most meaningfull clue had been to discover that i didn’t have any issue with wifi bridged networking in a Windows 10 guest VM, nor in a legacy Windows XP VM . so there should have been something very specific to compatibility with Windows 7!

Then i noticed that the network card driver installed in the Windows 7 VM and in the Windows 10 VM are not the same. the Win7 had the «Intel(R) Pro/1000 MT Network Connection» while the Win10 was running a «Intel(R) 82574L Gigabit Network Connection»; i decided to further investigate, and looking into the .vmx file of both VM i realized the following difference:

I manually altered the value of the «ethernet0.virtualDev» param in the Windows 7 .vmx file, as follows:

When i restarted the Windows 7 VM, the guest OS has immediately detected a network device recognized as a «Intel (R) 82574L Gigabit Network connection» and it has installed new drivers for it . and then, ta-dahhh, everything’s was finally running well again even with bridged networking via my Macbook Pro integrated wifi card.

I suppose that in the recent Fusion updates there has been a regression in the code (maybe in a kext) that emulates the Intel E1000 network card, creating problems and issues when the bridge mode involves the wifi card.

I sincerely hope that my experience can be useful to solve your problem.

Как завести интернет в VMware MacOS?

642dc3b858870787843942.png

OpenSUSE Tumbleweed.

З.Ы. Прошу не предлагать виртуалбокс, на нем не работает никаким боком макось. На вмвари все спокойно завелось.

UPD:
Посчитал еще нужным, как видит мое устройство с интернетом Линукс. Вот так:

No Internet for VMware Fusion for Mac for a virtual Windows 10 machine

I have been facing this problem of no internet in the Windows 10 virtual machine. I am running VMWare Fusion on a Macbook Pro. I have tried restarting Win10 VM, VMWareFusion, but nothing works.

3 Answers 3

After wasting close to 10 hours of restarting the machines, adding Network Adapters, etc and of course googling and searching here on StackOverflow, Finally the following works.

(Your VMWare Fusion and Windows 10 VM can be running)

  1. open Terminal in Mac. and run the following commands. (You might need to key in your credentials since they are ‘sudo’ commands)
  2. «sudo /Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/vmnet-cli —stop»
  3. «sudo /Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/vmnet-cli —start»

Thank you. I had to set the network adapter back to NAT instead of bridged in VMware also (I was testing both), then it took a few seconds to connect in the VM Windows, and the internet came online about 20 seconds later.

Was also toggling this option in my blind search for a solution. Did not remember the original setting. But NAT works as seen now.

I am having issues getting NAT working on VMware Fusion v12 and Mac v11 BigSur. Does anyone else have this issue? communities.vmware.com/t5/VMware-Fusion-Discussions/…

I started experiencing this issue when upgraded my Mac Book Pro. I upgraded from macOS Big Sur 11.5 to macOS Big Sur 11.6

When I opened up my VMWare Fusion and started my Ubuntu virtual machine I realized that the virtual machine no longer connects to the host machine’s internet connection automatically.

Here are the few things I first tried that did not work

  1. I restarted the Ubuntu virtual machine multiple times, but with no success.
  2. I quit VMWare Fusion and started it again, but with no success.
  3. I restarted my Mac Book multiple time, but with no success
  4. I disconnected and connected multiple times to my wifi, but no success.
  5. I ran the following command to load vmmon kext manually: sudo kextload /Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library/kexts/vmmon.kext/ and restarted my Mac Book for the extensions to be enabled. Then I ran the following command as well: kextstat | grep vm

Here are the last things I tried that finally made it work for me:

First, I navigated to the VMWare Fusion application directory:

cd /Applications/VMware\ Fusion.app/Contents/Library

Next, I ran the command below to check the status of vmnet:

I got the result below which showed that they were off:

DHCP service on vmnet1 is not running Hostonly virtual adapter on vmnet1 is disabled DHCP service on vmnet8 is not running NAT service on vmnet8 is running Hostonly virtual adapter on vmnet8 is disabled Some/All of the configured services are not running

Next, I tried to stop and start it using the command below:

sudo vmnet-cli --stop sudo vmnet-cli --start

I got the output below from the operation:

Enabled hostonly virtual adapter on vmnet1 Started DHCP service on vmnet1 Started NAT service on vmnet8 Enabled hostonly virtual adapter on vmnet8 Started DHCP service on vmnet8 Started all configured services on all networks

But when I ran the command below to check the status of vmnet:

I got the result below again which showed that they were off:

DHCP service on vmnet1 is not running Hostonly virtual adapter on vmnet1 is disabled DHCP service on vmnet8 is not running NAT service on vmnet8 is running Hostonly virtual adapter on vmnet8 is disabled Some/All of the configured services are not running

Finally, I tried running the command from jai’s answer:

Note: spctl is a command-line interface to the same security assessment policy subsystem that Gatekeeper uses. Like Gatekeeper, spctl will only accept Developer ID-signed apps and apps downloaded from the Mac App Store by default. It will reject apps signed with Mac App Store development or distribution certificates. You can read up more here: macOS Code Signing In Depth

Next, I shut down (not restarted) my Mac Book and then turned it on again. This time the Ubuntu virtual machine was able to connect to the host machine’s internet connection automatically.

You can enable spctl again (which is what I did) using the command below:

and watch to see if things are fine, else, you may have to disable again.

You can also check the status of spctl using the command below:

Fix Internet connection for macOS High Sierra in VMWare on Windows host

You have just installed macOS High Sierra 10.13 in vmware on Windows. But the Internet connection is not working. How do you fix it?

  • Ensure that you have installed the latest version of vmware workstation (current version is 14).
  • Click on Edit->Virtual Network Editor.

  • Under the Bridged option, choose your network adapter on Windows that connects to the Internet. (For me, my Windows laptop uses WiFi. So I chose the WiFi adapter – Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165). We are using the Bridged option so that the VM is added as another machine on the existing network of the host.
  • In the virtual machine settings, choose the Bridged option and check the option “Replicate physical network connection state”.

  • Start your Virtual machine. If you still do not get connected automatically to the Internet, you have to enter the IP address manually.
  • Go to your Windows host’s Control Panel. Open the Network Connections. Select your WiFi or any chosen adapter. Right-click and select status.

  • The same IP address, 192.168.0.1, appears for DHCP, DNS AND WINS Server. You have to use this as the Router IP address.
  • In macOS, open the System Preferences.
  • Click on Network.
  • For the Ethernet connection, choose “Using DHCP” for the option “Configure IPv4”.
  • Specify 162.168.0.1 as the ipv4 address.
  • Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0
  • Enter a new IP address from the current network’s pool range. Here it is 192.168.0.12.

Once done, you should be able to connect to the Internet.
