if you use the Mate desktop, it does not have a config icon for tablets; Cinnamon does; so best to use Cinnamon?
a forum member; ArtGirl; uses tablets for graphics and hopefully she can read the thread and advise;

Running the latest kernel available for Mint — 4.13.0-19-generic.
Installed xserver-xorg-input-wacom, libwacom2, and libwacom-common.
Still no luck (see screenshot). I believe it should at least work like a mouse.

so you are running Cinnamon to get that screenshot? . I am assuming it came from the config icon for tablets in Cinnamon ..
I just wondered what the version numbers are; as we have them already in Mint .. seems to me they are part of a Mint install but happy to be corrected

. are you sure it’s CTL-762, and not CTL-672?
I’m asking because i can’t find anything for ‘CTL-762’ in Wacom’s site, however, for ‘CTL-672’ support appears to have been added recently.

I’m afraid my knowledge doesn’t extend that far, however there exists a discussion about it on the Linux Wacom Tablet’s mailing lists that you could ask about.

Was able to get it working by downloading & compiling the latest driver from http://linuxwacom.sourceforge.net/wiki/ . nput-wacom after adding following lines to respective sections in wacom_wac.c:
static const struct wacom_features wacom_features_0x37A = < "One by Wacom S", 15200, 9500, 2047, 63, BAMBOO_PEN, WACOM_INTUOS_RES, WACOM_INTUOS_RES >; static const struct wacom_features wacom_features_0x37B = < "One by Wacom M", 21600, 13530, 2047, 63, BAMBOO_PEN, WACOM_INTUOS_RES, WACOM_INTUOS_RES >;
The Linux Wacom Project
The Linux Wacom Project manages the drivers, libraries, and documentation for configuring and running Wacom tablets under the Linux operating system. Our drivers are pre-installed in most major distributions and provide out-of-the box support for a virtually all Wacom tablets and TabletPCs.
Usually you can simply plug in your tablet and start working. However, in some cases a model may be too new (or obscure) to be fully supported out of the box. It may also be that your system is missing the necessary drivers for some reason. In these cases, the four packages below may help. Each serves a different purpose and not all are necessary. Please click on the links to get information on which drivers you may need and how to install each.
Before proceeding, please use your distribution’s package manager to perform a system update. This will ensure the latest drivers and utilities are installed and in some cases may be sufficient on its own to get a new tablet working.
Which software do you need?
Kernel Driver |
---|
A kernel driver is necessary to initalize the tablet and translate hardware-specific protocols into standard input events. We contribute patches directly to the Linux kernel, as well as maintain an out-of-tree kernel module that enables old kernels to work with many newer tablets. |
Install or update input-wacom if the system does not recognize your tablet and move the mouse pointer. |
Wayland Enviroments |
---|
In Wayland environments kernel input events are processed by libinput and forwarded on towards applications. libinput is external to the linuxwacom project. Read the FAQ for more information. |
In this case, install or update libinput if applications do not recognize tablet events properly. |
Xorg Environments |
---|
An X driver is responsible for translating kernel events into XInput events that can be used by applications such as GIMP. We provide an X driver that virtualizes the tablet into logical devices (e.g. stylus, eraser, touch) which report extended data like pressure and high-resolution coordinates. |
Install or update xf86-input-wacom if applications do not recognize the tablet and provide pressure-sensitivity. |
libwacom |
---|
The ‘libwacom’ library provides applications with a way to get information about any tablets that are currently connected. It may be used by control panels to better support devices and provide only relevant options or defaults for each. |
Install or update libwacom if the control panel does not recognize your tablet and provide appropriate options. |

SOLVED! Wacom One tablet not supported
Post by HoneyBear » Sat Sep 08, 2018 6:20 am
I use Linux Mint 18.1 and it seems to work fine with my old Wacom Intuos 3 tablet, although no graphics tablet option appears in the control center hardware section (but I guess I can setup details with the command line, and finding some documentation about xsetwacom). But I use this tablet on another computer, with proprietary OS and software. At least, it was useful as a test to check that wacom driver is installed on my Linux Mint computer.
Here’s the problem : on that computer with Linux Mint, I installed another table by Wacom, the «One» tablet. And it’s not recognised at all. I’ve read somewhere that there might be an issue with Wacom linux driver and Wacom tablet with a stylus that doesn’t have an eraser, which is the case with this «One». This seems to be quite an old bug (several years ago), but I’m starting to think it was actually never fixed.
Does anyone know about this (and a way to fix it)?
I’d really like to use this tablet with Linux Mint, to work with Krita and Blender.

See if that applies to you.

It kind of applies, but the explanations were a bit complicated (it implies modifying the driver source code, which is no longer necessary, as the new driver code now includes the «One» Wacom tablet).
Also, when I did what was required (installing the most recent Wacom driver from the source code) my computer couldn’t reboot, so I had to reinstall everything from scratch. That was quite a disappointment but as it was also an opportunity to install the new version of Linux Mint, that was OK.
So, just in case it might help anyone with the same problem, here’s the short version :

[SOLVED] Install a Wacom One graphics tablet on LM18.3
Post by SJM » Mon Oct 14, 2019 6:56 am
Hi, I’m a non-technical person trying to install a Wacom One tablet on Linux Mint 18.3. I’ve followed the instructions on https://github.com/linuxwacom/input-wac . rom-source as far as the step marked «Build/Install». It tells me to copy/paste a line of text:
$ if test -x ./autogen.sh; then ./autogen.sh; else ./configure; fi && make && sudo make install || echo «Build Failed»
bash: syntax error near unexpected token `then’
stuart@stuart-LinuxMint /usr/src/input-wacom-0.44.0 $
Please could someone advise? As I said, I’m a non-technical person and I really benefit from instructions broken down into quite simple steps. thanks!

. first things first. with the tablet plugged-in:
uname -r && lsusb
This will tell you 2 things. the kernel version in use,
and also the usb peripherals’ vendor/product IDs, so that you can see what is your very exact model.
Then, you cross-check this nicely convenient table here.
https://github.com/linuxwacom/input-wac . Device-IDs
As far as i can see there, at least 2 Wacom ‘One’ variants,
CTL-472 or CTL-672 namely, need kernel >= 4.16 in order to be recognized.
Else, (and still assuming your tablet is one of those 2 ones),
if for whatever reason you don’t want / can’t upgrade to >= 4.16,
you will then indeed have to build & install input-wacom manually,
replacing the versions that come with your current kernel.
In which case, from my understanding,
you’ve already ran sudo apt-get install build-essential autoconf linux-headers-$(uname -r) .
So, from within the input-wacom-0.44.0 folder.
if test -x ./autogen.sh; then ./autogen.sh; else ./configure; fi && make
(no $ in front of such)
For the sake of easiness, reboot afterwards.
Note that you will have to rebuild / reinstall such every time you update the kernel
(ie. it’s recommended to instead update that instead in the first place).
