Wifi direct error pdanet
The place to get help for questions you have related to your Android device and the Android ecosystem.
Phone: Pixel 3a (T-Mobile USA)
Version: Android 11 (RP1A.200720.009)
App: PdaNet 5.22 on phone and PdaNet 5.22.1 on Windows 10 PC (Latest versions of everything)
Issue: Whenever I enable WiFi Direct Hotspot, I receive the error «Bad data gram packet, please restart.» I’ve tried restarting the app on my phone and still get the same error. I have tried reinstalling and still get the same error. If I try to tether anyway, PdaNet on my phone says «Connected: My MAC adress(waiting)» and PdaNet on my computer says «Connecting to My Pixel information» and loads forever. Anybody know how to get this working? Seems like PdaNet might be dead, as I’ve sent a message to the devs with no reply.
Edit: USB tethering is still working, so I’ve switched over to that.
Edit 2: I got an email back and the app has been updated! Manually install the latest version from here .
Edit 3: It’s all up to date on the play store now. Working fine.
Edit 4: Got an error again. Turning mobile data on and off seems to fix WiFi Direct Hotspot. Nevermind it’s not working anymore. Error Code=16.

Is PDANet illegal?
yep, it will certainly violate the ToS, but they only raise an eyebrow if you start going crazy with the bandwidth. i cant imagine that streaming movies would be an incredibly pleasant experience on 3g though. I’ve been using PDANet since Nov and have had no problems, hiccups or billing issues.
Does PDANet really hide tethering?
PDANet hides tethering by changing the user agent of every HTTP request passed through, and also blocking OS-specific ports and features (Windows Update, Mac App Store, etc). This in turn has the smartphone route each request, and then replicate the data back to the device.
