What programs can I use WO Mic device? Can I use it with Skype, recording tool, or voice recognition tools?

Yes, you can. You can use it with any programs that work with real mic device. You can set WO Mic device to be the default recording device for those programs that don’t allow you to choose recording device.

I cannot find WO Mic audio device. How can I know if the device driver has been installed successfully?

Open WO Mic client and select Help -> Statistics. In the panel, if driver is working well, it should show like Driver state: 1; otherwise, it shall show Driver state: 0.

  1. Press Windows + X
  2. Select Device manager in the pop up menu
  3. Click on Sound, video and game controller
  4. Right click on WO Mic Device and select Uninstall

Why it cannot connect successfully when I’m using Wi-Fi, though it reports to be connected for a short time?

The firewall in your PC might be blocking WOMic from accessing UDP port for incoming audio data.

  1. Press Windows key
  2. Type firewall in the search box.
  3. Tap Windows Defender Firewall search result in Windows 10 (or Windows Firewall in Windows 7 or 8.1)
  4. In the popup window, choose Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall
  5. Check if womicclient is allowed or blocked. If WOMic client is not blocked, the check-box before it should be checked.

  3. Click Ok to continue
  • On most devices running Android 3.2 or older, you can find the option in Settings > Applications > Development.
  • On Android 4.2 and newer, Developer options is hidden by default. To make it available, go to Settings > About phone and tap Build number seven times. Return to the previous screen to find Developer options.

Does this also happen if your laptop display keeps ON? If it does not, please check your computer power options, to ensure that Wi-Fi connection will not be terminated when system enters sleep. Network adapter driver should also be updated to latest one and configured correctly.

Some audio source may be too sensitive to environment noise. Please go to app settings, select different MIC device as audio source and check which is the right one.

  • Use USB connection if possible. It’s more robust than wireless connection. And its latency is lower.
  • Put WO Mic app into foreground. Android will always give high priority to foreground app to run.
  • Close other apps which may consume too much CPU. WO Mic needs enough CPU duty to do audio packet encoding and transmission.
  • Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are both using 2.4G ISM frequency. They may interfere each other seriously. If it’s allowed, while you are using one wireless, you better shut down the other. Please do this on both phone and PC.

In Skype audio device setting, select «Custom device» as audio device. Then Skype allows you to customize microphone and speaker devices separately. Select WO Mic as the microphone device.

  • Android phone: Launch Google Play Store app. Tap Menu ->My Apps ->Subscriptions. Then tap on WO Mic to cancel its subscription.

Bash script for running WO Mic on Linux

The purpose of this script is to be able to connect to a locally started WO Mic server in the background and exit the terminal freely, without having to remember the PID, when you want to disconnect.

The WO Mic Appimage binary has to be downloaded in order for the script to work. That can be done either automatically or manually. If you prefer to download it yourself, you can do so according to the instructions from the official site (step 1) and then you will need to move the AppImage file to the same directory as the script.

Place the script in the same folder as the extracted AppImage binary and run it like so:

-b — to connect via Bluetooth
-w — to connect via WiFi
-k — to disconnect
-h — to show this help message

Use phone as microphone in Linux

I have dual boot Windows and Ubuntu. Since I don’t use any microphone on my desktop, I started using an app named «WO Mic» to connect my Android phone’s microphone to my desktop in Windows. A good alternative, right? Well, sadly, WO Mic is not supported on any Linux-based OS, so I would like to know if there are any alternatives or any app that could use my phone as microphone on Ubuntu over Wi-Fi or USB. (but preferably Wi-Fi).

I use Mumble (desktop client) + Murmur (as LAN server) + Plumble (Android/iOS client). This results in the lowest latency I’ve ever achieved (sounds almost like normal loopback, theoretically 7ms WiFi delay + 2x 10ms codec delay = 27 ms).

  1. Install Mumble (desktop client) + Murmur (server) + Plumble (Android/iOS client). Set all 3 programs to use best quality and minimal latency. Set mobile client to always streaming.
  2. To install Mumble + Murmur on Ubuntu, you can use:

  • Copy mic_over_mumble anywhere — it will use ~/.mic_over_Mumble as configuration directory.
  • Run mic_over_mumble . It will start the server on LAN, then start Mumble (if asked for nickname, enter anything other than SuperUser). Then connect your mobile device to the LAN server manually. Please note that Mumble mobile app has some issues.
  • Then, set up your programs to use either «Monitor_of_Mumble» or «VirtualMic» as input device (they are linked). E.g. in OBS:
